Confirmed Release of New Skate Game 15 Years After Skate 3 Announcement

EA and Full Circle have revealed exciting news for fans of realistic skateboarding games: the long-anticipated Skate revival will launch in early access next year, following a playtest for consoles this fall.

The next installment in the dormant Skate franchise is generating buzz among enthusiasts of immersive skateboarding experiences.

In a recent post that showcased pre-alpha footage—the clearest glimpse of gameplay made official to date—the developers announced that Skate will enter early access sometime in 2025. However, a specific release window has yet to be confirmed.

Before that, select console players will get the chance to experience Skate during a closed console playtest scheduled for fall 2024.

Skate Insider on EA’s official website. While the specific start date and platforms have not been disclosed, the registration form inquires about PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.

This upcoming console playtest follows two years of PC playtesting, which EA reports has featured “tens of thousands of individual playtesters” navigating the game’s new city, San Vansterdam. This setting artfully merges elements from San Vanelona and Port Carverton found in previous entries, along with inspirations drawn from the developers’ “favorite real-world spots.”

Skate will mark the first new release in the series since Skate 3, which came out in 2010 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Initially launched as an annual series in the late 2000s, the franchise remained dormant for a decade until EA unveiled the fifth installment during EA Play 2020, developed by the newly established studio, Full Circle.

In 2022, developers announced that the game would be a free-to-play title named simply Skate, set in the vibrant city of San Vansterdam. Although few details have surfaced since then, leaks suggest the game may incorporate loot boxes in the form of Swag Bags, along with the anticipated customization options.
