Contagion Director Joins Longlegs Studio to Make the ‘Next In a Violent Nature’

The initial teaser for the highly-anticipated horror film from Contagion director Steven Soderbergh has been released, and it follows a premise coded with the theme of In a Violent Nature.

Additionally, the new film is being distributed by Neon, the same studio responsible for the success of Oz Perkins’ horror hit, Longlegs.

Scheduled for a January 2025 release, Presence follows a family plagued by an enigmatic presence, but with a unique perspective – the story is told from the ghost’s point of view.

In a similar fashion, Chris Nash’s indie success, In a Violent Nature, also portrays the perspective of the killer.

The recent teaser trailer offers minimal information aside from giving viewers a glimpse of what to anticipate. It showcases the entity’s point of view as it moves from the window of the family’s home into a room.

Despite this, the cryptic teaser effectively mirrors the elusive marketing campaign for Longlegs, adding to its appeal. Additionally, the involvement of various big names and talents has generated a significant amount of excitement.

To begin with, Soderbergh is an incredibly versatile director, having directed a range of films such as Sex, Lies, and Videotape, Erin Brockovich, Insane, Magic Mike, Contagion, and the Ocean’s Eleven film series.

The cast includes Lucy Liu, Julia Fox, Callina Liang, and Chris Sullivan, and the script has been written by David Koepp, known for his work on Stir of Echoes and Jurassic Park.

Despite its slated release in 2025, the new horror movie made its debut at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, reportedly causing walkouts due to its “intense”and “stressful”nature.

According to Variety’s Stephen Rodrick, at the time it was disclosed that there were a few people who walked out during the screening of the film, despite the overall positive reaction from the audience. One person even whispered that they couldn’t handle the stress of the film late at night.

Some horror fans have responded to the new teaser with a range of opinions, with several pointing out the resemblance to the POV used in In a Violent Nature.

One X/Twitter user jokingly commented, “The studios will probably pit this supernatural being against the slasher from In A Violent Nature and force us to purchase two tickets to see the story from both angles.”

Another individual commented, “After watching Enter the Void and In a Violent Nature, he was inspired to create a similar film.”

Some are eagerly anticipating the release of Presence. One person commented, “The trailer is unusual, but the concept is very interesting,”while another user wrote, “It seems like NEON is following in the footsteps of A24 with their early successes.”

Possible Change: Major Streaming Platforms to Crack Down on Password SharingIf you have been using someone else’s account, be aware that two streaming platforms are planning to take action against password sharing. Therefore, be prepared to pay for your own account.Netflix’s previous tweet, which stated “Love is sharing a password,” seems to no longer hold true. The streaming service has now implemented measures such as requiring payment for additional users or restricting access to accounts belonging to friends and family outside of the household.Unfortunately, this worked to their advantage as Netflix reported a significant increase in profits following the implementation of their new policy. This was expected as individuals were now responsible for paying for their own plans for the first time.As prices continue to rise and more expensive ad-free options become available, two additional streamers are also adopting this trend.Disney Plus and HBO Max Password-Sharing Crackdowns Are ComingAccording to CEO Bob Iger, Disney Plus will start actively enforcing password sharing restrictions in September 2024, while HBO’s Max will implement its crackdown at a later date this year.According to JB Perrette, who serves as the president of global streaming at Warner Bros. Discovery, implementing limitations on password sharing presents a significant opportunity in relation to the size of our company.Don’t panic just yet, as the wide release of this won’t happen until 2025 (although, that’s only a few months from now… yikes).Bob Iger confirms Disney+ password sharing crackdown will begin in September pic.twitter.com/nw3PP8KGRa— ScreenTime (@screentime) August 7, 2024Disney is taking a proactive approach to its changes, as they have recently introduced ‘paid sharing’ in select countries this summer. The US has not yet implemented this feature and the cost of adding another user to an account remains unknown, but Iger is confident that the transition will be seamless.According to The Verge, there has been no negative response to the notifications about paid sharing that have been sent out and the efforts that have already been put in. The person stated, “We have not experienced any backlash.””Earlier this year, The Wrap reported that Disney’s CFO Hugh Johnston announced that later this year, account holders will have the option to add individuals from outside their household to their accounts for an extra charge.””Although it may still be early, we anticipate seeing significant results from these paid sharing initiatives in the latter half of 2024. Our goal is to reach a wide audience with our high-quality content, and we are excited to introduce this new functionality that will enhance the overall customer experience and expand our subscriber base.”
