Controversial Game Mode Set to Return in Upcoming Battlefield Title

Recent speculation indicates that the beloved Portal mode may return in the upcoming installment of the Battlefield franchise, eliciting both excitement and concern among fans, particularly given the mixed reception of its first iteration.

The Revival of Portal: A Double-Edged Sword

Introduced in Battlefield 2042, the Portal mode allowed players to craft custom battles by combining maps, vehicles, and gadgets from past games, such as Battlefield 1942, Battlefield 2, and Battlefield 3 with contemporary elements from Battlefield 2042. This feature enabled players to revisit much-loved locations like Arica Harbor from Battlefield: Bad Company 2, Caspian Border from Battlefield 3, and the historic Battle of the Bulge from 1942.

The nostalgic appeal of Portal undeniably attracted both long-time series enthusiasts and newcomers who sought an enriching experience drawn from the franchise’s history. Despite EA’s commitment to delivering a steady stream of post-launch content, players were disappointed by the lack of significant updates for Portal after its initial release.

Concerns Going Forward

The absence of updates can largely be attributed to the broader issues surrounding Battlefield 2042, leading many to question whether the return of Portal will bring improvements or simply repeat past mistakes.

Exciting Developments: Confirmation from EA

In a recent online briefing for content creators hosted by EA, prominent Battlefield YouTuber Flakfire disclosed that Portal will indeed feature in the next title.“We received surprising confirmation during the briefing that Portal will be making a return with the next Battlefield title, ” Flakfire noted.“While I suspected this would be carried over from Battlefield 2042, I didn’t expect such prompt confirmation.”

Player Feedback and Testing Opportunities

EA has launched Battlefield Labs, a new program aimed at allowing players to test and provide feedback on a pre-alpha version of the upcoming game. Flakfire speculates that Portal could be one of the game modes included in these early testing phases. He commented, “We are likely just a few months away from the first round of tests on Battlefield Labs. Earlier announcements hinted at playtests starting this year, which is an exciting prospect.”

Additionally, there are rumors of the new Battlefield title including a battle royale mode; however, community perception of this addition is more skeptical compared to the enthusiasm surrounding the return of Portal.
