The members of the Helldivers 2 community are prepared to allow the Automatons to take control of Super Earth in order to protest the contentious nerfs to Escalation of Freedom.
On August 6, Arrowhead released the Escalation of Freedom update, which was met with enthusiasm from players. However, this excitement soon turned to frustration as the community discovered the significant impacts of the latest balance changes.
The ammo capacity and cooldown periods of Helldivers 2 weapons and Stratagems, including the GP-31 Grenade Pistol and Orbital 120mm HE Barrage, were decreased through nerfs.
However, the greatest impact was seen on flame effects. In order to create a more realistic fire experience, the studio decreased the effectiveness of Flamethrowers and similar weapons. These modifications were particularly shocking to the community, especially considering the inclusion of several incendiary weapons in the new Premium Warbond, Freedom’s Flame.
A portion of the user base began to engage in review bombing Helldivers 2 on Steam in response. Some suggest that the demonstration should take place within the game itself, specifically by allowing the Automatons to reach Super Earth without interference.
A post on the Helldivers 2 subreddit with almost 3,000 upvotes declares, “Allow the Bots to progress. Let Super Earth perish.”

The frustrated soldier who wrote the post condemned the Super Earth leaders for deceiving their citizens and usurping power from the Helldivers.
This act of treason suggests that players should refrain from retaliating against the oncoming Automatons. Although some may wonder how Joel, the Game Master of Helldivers 2, would respond to such actions, others are intrigued by the concept.
Despite what one Redditor stated, it is important to note that inferior weapons and inadequate artillery are key factors in losing wars. Therefore, our inability to defend Super Earth is due to our enemies possessing superior weapons, whereas our own production of weaponry is subpar in comparison.
One Helldivers 2 fan’s response to the Escalation of Freedom drama was, “If Super Earth doesn’t value its own defense, why should we bother caring?”
After facing criticism, the CEO of Arrowhead has vowed to enhance communication between the developer and its users.
However, it is uncertain if Super Earth will be able to resolve its issues before the bots arrive at its doorstep. Currently, there is still a significant amount of territory that needs to be reclaimed before all available Automaton sectors are freed.
