Controversy over a Scene Involving Zoro in One Piece Chapter 1124

One Piece Chapter 1124 sets the stage for a new arc, but a scene featuring Zoro has received criticism from fans.

The Egghead Arc in One Piece is coming to an end as the crew embarks on their journey to Elbaf. Despite Luffy’s promise to rescue Vegapunk from the clutches of the World Government, he tragically passes away despite all of Luffy’s efforts. In Chapter 1123, it is revealed that Vegapunk had orchestrated his own demise, a fact that Luffy remains unaware of.

Based on spoilers for One Piece Chapter 1124, it seems that Luffy is grieving over the loss of Vegapunk. Despite this, Zoro’s response is to call it pathetic, citing Luffy’s new status as a Yonko and implying that the death of an elderly man should not impact him. This is typical behavior from Zoro, but some fans are criticizing his lack of empathy while others disagree.

“A fan expresses their thoughts, stating that Zoro’s lack of empathy will eventually become his greatest downfall. This is not meant to slander, as they believe that Oda will create an arc where Zoro learns the importance of vulnerability and showing emotions.”

“I don’t believe Zoro lacks empathy; he is simply highly practical. We have witnessed Zoro display empathy and even righteous anger towards the people of Wano. However, the passing of an elderly man is not an unusual occurrence; it is a natural part of life. Zoro may feel more vulnerable with the idea of a death pact,”argues another.

“A different fan shares, “Personally, I don’t like the way Luffy’s status in the world influences his behavior towards those he’s close with. I agree with Zoro’s perspective, but it doesn’t sit well with me.”This comment was made in response to a post by another fan expressing their opinion on the matter.

“According to another fan’s tweet on x.com, Zoro’s character is often misunderstood by people. While Luffy has ascended to the status of a Yonko, Zoro believes that Luffy should not let the death of his Vice President affect him so greatly, as it is not befitting of a Yonko.”

The Elbaf Arc is the next destination for the One Piece manga.
