Indictment of Security Firm Representatives for Security Service Violations
On August 16th, the Incheon International Airport Police announced that they have formally indicted a 40-year-old individual, referred to as A, who serves as the head of a private security firm, along with three associates. They face accusations of breaching the Security Services Industry Act.
The other individuals involved in this case include two security personnel from A’s firm and a freelance bodyguard. This legal action stems from events that took place on July 12th, when A and his team allegedly overstepped their boundaries by managing access at the airport gates, directing flashlights at passengers near the lounge, and inspecting boarding passes while attempting to provide security for popular actor Byun Woo-seok during an event that drew a large crowd of fans.
Repercussions and Public Outcry
This incident has escalated to a report filed with the National Human Rights Commission of Korea regarding Byun Woo-seok’s treatment during the security operation. In response to the controversy, his agency, Varo Entertainment, issued a public apology, stating, “We deeply apologize for the inconvenience caused to passengers during the security process at Incheon Airport. We will take greater care in the future to ensure that such situations do not occur again.”
Potential Additional Charges Under Review
The police are currently deliberating whether to impose further charges, potentially including coercion or obstruction of business, as their investigation continues into the conduct of the four individuals involved in this incident.
