Despite its cancellation after a single season, “The Idol”has received an Emmy nomination and is a potential winner.
HBO’s production “The Idol”features Abel “The Weeknd”Tesfaye, Lily-Rose Depp (daughter of Johnny Depp), and BLACKPINK’s Jennie. This show was recognized with a nomination for Outstanding Choreography at the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards.
Choreographer Nina McNeely, known for her work with stars such as Rihanna, Björk, Sam Smith, Nick Jonas, and Foo Fighters, has a history of successful collaborations. In 2021, she received a nomination for Best Choreography at the MTV Video Music Awards for Foo Fighters’ “Shame Shame”. Her previous partnerships with The Weeknd played a significant role in her involvement with “The Idol.”
Despite the unexpected cancellation and criticism of “The Idol,” both HBO and choreographer Nina McNeely were taken by surprise. While Nina still views the show as one-of-a-kind, delving into rarely explored narratives, she acknowledges that the timing may not have been ideal.
