Despite facing accusations of plagiarism for f(x)’s 2013 album “Pink Tape,”Min Hee Jin has not managed to convince Korean netizens of her innocence.
On May 23, 2024, one of South Korea’s most popular online community forums, Instiz, shared a post titled “Suspicions over Min Hee Jin plagiarizing ‘The Pink Tape’”.
The post featured the album art for Spanish artist Pink Tape’s “Anomaly”extended play, shared by the original poster. The artwork showcases a purple-pink cassette tape with the artist’s name, “PINK TAPE,”displayed on it. The tape is seen partially pulled out of the cassette. This extended play was originally released in 2012.
In 2013, the album art for f(x)’s second studio album, “Pink Tape,”was released, featuring the involvement of Min Hee Jin, known for her creative contributions to f(x). The album art utilized pink videotape, with a label showcasing all the members and the phrase “PINK TAPE.”The cassette tape also categorized the “film”as a fusion of romance and cult.
Despite the similarities in color and the use of the term “PINK TAPE,”netizens remain unconvinced and speculate that Min Hee Jin may have drawn inspiration from Pink Tape or that it is simply a coincidence.
The most notable contrast between the album covers for Pink Tape and f(x) is the incorporation of a cassette tape for the former and a videotape for the latter. Many argue that these distinct choices serve as strong evidence that Min Hee Jin did not copy Pink Tape’s design.
It was also observed that the tape used in “Anamoly”bears no resemblance to the pink color used in f(x)’s album. This further supports the fact that Min Hee Jin did not plagiarize.
Some pointed out that f(x) could have chosen “Pink Tape”as their album title by chance, since artists are permitted to use titles that have already been used by others.
There were suspicions that the accusations were made by individuals who are backing HYBE in the ongoing legal dispute between the company and ADOR CEO Min Hee Jin. Earlier, Min Hee Jin faced allegations of copying the concept of Mexican girl group Jeans for her brand NewJeans, a claim that gained widespread attention due to the promotion of it by HYBE supporters on social media.
This article is currently going viral among knetz with almost 300k views in just 2 hrs. It highlights the similarities between New Jeans and the Mexican gg Jeans. And now knetz are questioning min heejin’s originality. 😭https://t.co/hP9T2ifQg8 pic.twitter.com/JdkIsc75AJ
