Marques ‘MKBHD’ Brownlee’s recent review of the Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra has received backlash, with some labeling it as his “worst review” yet.
On July 23, 2024, Brownlee uploaded a video reviewing the new Samsung watch. The focus was on its new features and many are comparing it to the Apple Watch Ultra, labeling it as a “copycat”.
The speaker stated that he has expressed this sentiment previously and he stands by it – he doesn’t mind if these products and companies imitate each other. He believes that as long as they are copying the positive aspects, it ultimately benefits us as customers.
“This particular one was guilty of copying numerous items, going a bit overboard and even replicating one extra element that ultimately hindered its argument.”
Upon further discussion, MKBHD addressed Samsung’s use of titanium, three watch band options, and certain elements of the software, suggesting that they may have been inspired by Apple.
In addition, he spoke very positively about the Samsung wearable, praising its WearOS performance, usability, and battery life.
Despite his claims that Samsung copied Apple, there has been significant backlash from Twitter/X users who are dissatisfied with the tech YouTuber’s review. They have strongly criticized both the YouTuber and the review itself.
“Marques, this is the worst review you have ever done. Your blatant favoritism, insufficient research, and overall iSheep attitude are disappointing. I usually enjoy watching your reviews, but this one was made in poor taste. As one user commented, it’s a shameless use of your own terms.”
Another person expressed, “I am a fan of your videos, but this one did not meet expectations. It seems like little effort was put into researching for this video.”
“A third commenter stated that this was the worst tech video ever published by an established channel in the past 4 years.”

Another user points out that the majority of the features that Marques cited as evidence of Samsung copying the Apple Watch Ultra had already been present on previous Galaxy Watches.
“MKBHD mentioned a variety of features such as titanium construction, an app drawer, pinch gestures, and sapphire glass that were already present on previous models of Galaxy watches.”
Despite the backlash over his review, Marques has not yet responded. However, if he does, we will make sure to update this article accordingly.
In 2024, Marques Brownlee faced criticism for one of his reviews, marking not the first time this has happened. In April, his review of the Humane AI Pin as the “worst product ever”sparked controversy as some claimed his criticism was “distasteful”and “almost unethical.”
