Count of Venom Movies and Viewing Order Guide

Venom: The Last Dance is set to conclude the saga of Eddie Brock and his symbiotic counterpart, at least for the time being. Here’s everything you need to know about the Venom films, including how many there are and the best viewing order.

Since the Venom franchise began in 2018, diving back into the series is far less daunting than revisiting the entire Marvel cinematic universe.

Tom Hardy revitalized the infamous character of Venom in the initial film, portraying both Eddie Brock and the infamous symbiote. This new interpretation of the notorious antihero has shaped the series significantly, leading up to its imminent conclusion.

Before you prepare for Venom: The Last Dance, here’s a comprehensive guide to navigating the Venom films.

Total Number of Venom Movies

In total, there are three films in the Venom series: Venom, Venom: Let There Be Carnage, and Venom: The Last Dance.

It’s worth noting that Venom made his debut in the cinematic world back in 2007 with Spider-Man 3. Yet, the current series exists in a different universe, thus only counting three films in this collection.

The Last Dance marks the concluding chapter of this Venom franchise, signifying Tom Hardy’s final portrayal of Eddie Brock and the beloved symbiote.

Viewing the Venom Movies in Sequence

You can choose to watch the Venom movies in either chronological order or the order of their release; either option works since the story unfolds sequentially. Therefore, it’s advisable to view them in the sequence of their release to fully appreciate the narrative development.

The inaugural film introduces Eddie Brock prior to his extraterrestrial encounter. As a struggling journalist, he receives a significant lead from his fiancée Anne, who is a lawyer for the questionable Life Foundation.

After confronting CEO Carlton Drake regarding dangerous human trials for symbiote testing, Eddie breaks into their research lab and inadvertently becomes bonded with the alien symbiote Venom. The duo must learn to coexist while simultaneously aiming to dismantle the Life Foundation.

Venom: Let There Be Carnage (2021)

The mid-credits scene from the first Venom film sets the stage for this sequel’s antagonist: Carnage. By this time, Eddie and Venom have been working to clean up the streets, helping Eddie cope with his moral dilemmas while Venom indulges his carnivorous appetite. However, chaos ensues when Eddie interviews infamous serial killer Cletus Kasady.

This meeting grants Cletus his own symbiotic link, transforming him into Carnage. Eddie and Venom must confront this new threat as Carnage embarks on a violent spree, all while Eddie’s personal life begins to unravel.

Venom: The Last Dance (2024)

The concluding entry, The Last Dance, indicates a definitive chapter for both Eddie and Venom. Eddie finds himself fleeing after being accused of killing Detective Mulligan, while Venom learns of Knull’s impending escape from his confinement.

As they each navigate their perilous situations, they face the threat of a clandestine military operation intent on capturing them. The fate of Eddie and Venom remains uncertain, but it seems this film signals the end of their collaborative journey.

Is Spider-Man 3 Included?

Spider-Man 3 is not officially classified as part of the Venom movie series, but if you want the complete experience of Venom’s cinematic history, it can be beneficial to view it prior to the Hardy films.

Watching Spider-Man 3 before diving into Venom (2018) allows you a glimpse of how the character was presented in the earlier Spider-Man films—spoiler alert: it’s less than stellar.

Indeed, the awkward and lackluster portrayal of Venom and Eddie Brock (played by Topher Grace) in Spider-Man 3 may enhance your appreciation for the modern adaptations.

Currently, Spider-Man 3 is available for streaming on Disney Plus.

Where You Can Watch

The initial two Venom films are currently available for streaming on Disney Plus. However, you’ll need to catch The Last Dance in theaters upon its release on October 25, 2024.

Once Venom 3 transitions to streaming platforms, it will likely join the first two films on Disney Plus.

If you lack a Disney Plus subscription, the first two films can be rented or purchased on digital services like Amazon Prime Video and Apple TV+, starting from $3.89. Following its theatrical run, Venom 3 should be available for rent or purchase by the end of the year.

Mark your calendars for the theatrical release of Venom: The Last Dance on October 25, 2024.
