Couple Fakes Marriage to Get Room Upgrade, Results in Humiliating Experience

A couple’s attempt to secure free upgrades on their vacation by claiming to be on their honeymoon ended in an unexpected and embarrassing situation.

Ricky Liu and his partner, Thomas, were enjoying a cruise in Vietnam when they decided to employ a classic strategy for a complimentary room upgrade. On arrival, they falsely informed the cruise staff that they were celebrating their honeymoon even though they were not married.

This tactic quickly paid off, resulting in their complimentary upgrade to a luxurious honeymoon suite. However, while dining at one of the ship’s restaurants, the ruse was brought to light in a rather conspicuous manner.

The couple’s table was adorned with romantic rose petals, and the staff showcased a sign celebrating their so-called “happy honeymoon.” As if that wasn’t enough, they were also presented with lavish cocktails, which caught the attention of other diners. The situation escalated as the restaurant staff began playing a classic Whitney Houston love ballad, further drawing attention to them.

Ricky later mentioned that a couple seated nearby was genuinely celebrating their wedding, which made him feel slightly guilty for stealing the spotlight. Nevertheless, the incident was a noteworthy moment during their trip.

TikToker Expresses Willingness to Repeat the Honeymoon Lie for Upgrades

In a viral TikTok video recounting the experience, Liu admitted that despite the embarrassment they faced, he wouldn’t hesitate to repeat the same lie for an upgrade. “Would I do this again? Abso-f*cking-lutely, yes,” he declared.

Liu humorously suggested that the cruise staff might have been aware of their deception but played into it, perhaps to let them savor their guilt over the elaborate perks they received. Many viewers found Liu’s approach amusing and harmless, opining that since they might get married in the future, it was technically not a total lie.

Ultimately, it seems the couple successfully managed to escape the fallout of their playful deception, turning their vacation into a memorable experience.
