Court Ruling: Actor Jisoo’s Agency Ordered to Pay 1.4 Billion Won to Drama Production Company Amid School Violence Allegations

In March 2021, during the airing of the sixth episode of KBS 2TV’s Monday-Tuesday drama “River Where The Moon Rises,” lead actor Jisoo faced allegations of past school violence.

After being accused, Jisoo promptly acknowledged the impact of the allegation and chose to withdraw from the drama. This decision was made while 18 out of the 20 episodes had already been filmed.

The production company replaced Na In-woo with a substitute starting from the seventh episode and began re-filming. Even after the drama had finished airing, episodes 1 to 6 were still re-filmed.

The production company for the drama, Victory Content, later took legal action against KeyEast, Jisoo’s former agency, seeking 3 billion won in damages. This amount includes the extra expenses for re-shooting the production.

The Seoul Central District Court’s Civil Agreement Department 31, presided over by Chief Judge Kim Sang-woo, ruled in favor of the plaintiff in the damages lawsuit between Victory Contents and KeyEast. The court ordered the defendant to pay 1.42 billion won and delayed interest to the plaintiff, without providing a detailed explanation for the decision.
