Recently, iconic boxer and renowned promoter Oscar De La Hoya had an encounter with world champion fighter Canelo Alvarez, which caught the attention of UFC star Conor McGregor.
On May 4, Canelo Alvarez, promoted by Golden Boy, will put his unified super middleweight title on the line against the undefeated Jaime Munguia.
Leading up to the championship fight, Alvarez, who was once a part of Golden Boy, made negative comments about the founder of the promotion, Oscar De La Hoya.
Alvarez’s relationship with De La Hoya’s organization turned sour in 2020 when he was let go from his deal and later filed a lawsuit against them for terminating his contract without valid reason.
The ongoing hostility between the two remains evident, as they engaged in physical altercations during a May 1 press conference following De La Hoya’s derogatory comments towards Canelo.
It was no surprise that the reigning champion refused to let those comments go without a response. Canelo confronted De La Hoya, but before things could escalate, they were pulled apart.

Despite De La Hoya’s retirement from fighting, Conor McGregor, a renowned UFC fighter, suggested an innovative resolution to resolve the feud between these two iconic boxers.
Conor McGregor, who has recently acquired a share of ownership in Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship, is eager to witness a potential bout between Canelo and De La Hoya within the emerging promotion.
On X, McGregor shared a clip of their altercation and threw down the challenge. “I would love to see these two fight without gloves. Let’s take off the gloves and settle this, b****!”
I’d love these two go at it Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship. Take off the gloves and fight, bitch! 👊 @bareknucklefc https://t.co/EPX3lQVcrK

While it is improbable that the 51-year-old De La Hoya will ever return to the boxing ring, especially to face a current champion at the peak of their career, the concept is intriguing at first glance.
A highly anticipated fight between Canelo and his former boxing mentor would attract a large audience, and the inclusion of the bare-knuckle element would likely entice even those who are not regular fans of combat sports to watch.
Despite the small likelihood of a fight actually occurring due to the significant 18-year age difference, De La Hoya’s last professional fight was in 2008 when he lost to Manny Pacquiao.
Additionally, there is no evidence to suggest that Canelo would ever consider participating in a bare-knuckle fight, even against someone he openly detests.
Although it is simply a playful idea, McGregor, true to his signature style, sees it as the ideal solution to reconcile Canelo and De La Hoya.
