With the release of Street Fighter 6 featuring guest characters like Terry Bogard and Mai Shiranui, fans have begun speculating about potential additions from other series to Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves. A recent trailer has provided an unexpected answer, revealing that world-renowned soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo will be part of City of the Wolves in some capacity.
The brief 30-second trailer features the phrase “A legendary player joins a legendary game,” accompanied by visuals of a soccer field and a door. Notably, there are no images of Ronaldo himself. The trailer depicts the door emblazoned with the Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves logo being forcefully struck, hinting at the arrival of Ronaldo as a potential playable character, though it could also imply his entrance as a guest in another form.
While the concept of fighting game crossovers might seem excessive, it’s not unprecedented for real-life personalities to appear as themselves in fighting games. For instance, Street Fighter 6 has included commentators and celebrity guests within its real-time commentator feature. Whether City of the Wolves will adopt something similar remains to be seen, but Ronaldo could easily be featured as a commentator instead of a full-fledged fighter, which might explain the absence of his actual likeness in the trailer.
It’s important to note that the SNK Official YouTube account, which has released all character trailers for City of the Wolves, has not yet posted their version of the “Ronaldo trailer.” When they do, it may reveal more details about how Ronaldo will fit into Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves. However, Ronaldo has shared the video on his Instagram, stating, “Something exciting in the making!” which suggests that this is authentic news rather than an elaborate April Fool’s joke.
While awaiting further information, Ronaldo’s involvement is certainly an exciting development to monitor. This could hint at the introduction of commentators, or perhaps mark the beginning of City of the Wolves’ series of unique “crossover” “characters,” including real-life icons. With such whimsical possibilities, one can’t help but wonder when the day will come that real life collides with Fatal Fury, allowing characters like Terry Bogard to step into our world.
