Critical Role Announces First Candela Obscura Live Show

The upcoming Critical Role live performance has been revealed for the following month, and it will showcase Darrington Press’ Candela Obscura in a one-shot investigative adventure.

In May, Critical Role’s live play show Candela Obscura will be hosting its first in-person performance, featuring an investigative horror TTRPG.

The United Theater on Broadway in Los Angeles will be hosting a one-night-only event on Saturday, May 25, 2024. For those unable to attend in person, the performance will be broadcasted live on Critical Role’s Twitch and YouTube channels. The VOD of the show will also be accessible on June 3, 2024.

Candela Obscura designer Spenser Starke will serve as the Game Master for the show, while investigators Matthew Mercer, Laura Bailey, Marisha Ray, and guest Khary Payton team up to take on a one-shot assignment.

The event’s Master of Ceremonies will be Taliesin Jaffe, who has led every Candela circle in the live play show thus far.

Tickets for the event can be purchased on Critical Role’s website starting at 10 am PT on Monday, April 29. VIP ticket holders will also have the opportunity to attend a special pre-show featuring character and Circle creation.

Last year saw the release of Candela Obscura, a horror TTRPG that takes place in the Fairelands, a fictional world inspired by the early 20th century. The game’s main focus is on character-driven storytelling and brief cinematic arcs, where players join forces as a “Circle”to delve into supernatural occurrences.

In conjunction with the debut of the game’s Quickstart Guide, Critical Role has been broadcasting a live gameplay show on the final Thursday of every month. This show showcases a variety of Game Masters and players in three-episode story arcs.

The final episode of Chapter 4 of Candela Obscura will air on Thursday, April 25 at 7 pm PT on Critical Role’s Twitch and YouTube channels. This episode will mark the conclusion of the Circle of the Crimson Mirror’s story.
