Several Apple TV+ users have expressed criticism towards Brad Pitt’s latest action comedy, Wolfs, due to the project’s high budget that they find unjustifiable.
Wolfs, one of the most highly anticipated new movies of 2024, will feature Hollywood’s biggest names, Brad Pitt and George Clooney.
Given that the movie will showcase well-known Hollywood actors, it’s no wonder that the budget has been disclosed to be on the higher side.
Despite The New York Times reporting that Wolfs spent $35 million on stars Clooney and Brad Pitt individually, some users have raised concerns about the money breakdown as the director of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Jon Watts, was only paid $15 million.
One user expressed their disbelief at the financial viability of the situation on X/Twitter, while another stated that the entire crew, including catering, likely did not make a combined total of $1 million.
Another viewer commented, “Apple’s spending is not sustainable, it seems to be solely for tax purposes at this stage.”
Despite potentially having superior TV shows compared to Netflix, Apple TV+ appears to be losing the battle of the online platforms. This is due to the fact that Apple TV+ invests more money into their titles, resulting in lower profits.
Despite appearing astronomical, Pitt and Clooney’s salaries are simply in line with industry standards. The cast of The Morning Show alone cost Apple TV+ a whopping $50 million.
The streaming service is reducing its content budgets as a means of competing with its main competitor, Netflix, which is one of the reasons for its spending cut.
Currently, Apple TV+ comprises just 0.2% of the U.S. TV viewership, while Netflix maintains a solid 8%, resulting in a significant imbalance in the streaming wars.
