Criticism of Marvel Rivals Closed Beta Battle Pass Rewards

The Closed Beta Battle Pass and rewards in Marvel Rivals have caused frustration among players, leading to concerns about the game’s future management of time-sensitive content.

After the initial Alpha in May, Marvel Rivals is now offering a Closed Beta on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S until August 5. This latest test gives players the opportunity to experience the game and its diverse cast of superheroes, including the newly added Thor and Jeff the Land Shark.

Galacta’s Quest, a Battle Pass, is another highlight of the game. It offers multiple tiers that grant players rewards, such as character skins. However, as this is a Closed Beta, only a small portion of its content will transfer to the full game upon its release, causing disappointment among players.

One player, in a Reddit post, expressed their opinion that the Battle Pass and its higher tiers were “pointless.”They specifically mentioned the Herald of Thunder Thor skin, which is only unlocked at level 42 and serves as the final reward.

Not gonna lie, extending Galacta’s Quest to Level 42 with Thor’s outfit not even being permanent with only 7 days is kinda pointless imho… byu/Glittering-Yam-5719 inmarvelrivals

The Cyan Clash Venom skin (level 30) and Golden Abyss nameplate (level 40) are the only Battle Pass rewards from the Closed Beta that will be carried over and are designated as “Permanent.”

Those who took part in the Closed Alpha and acquired Scarlet Witch’s Moonlit Witch skin will also be able to retain it.

Despite numerous opportunities, a considerable number of players are reluctant to push themselves to reach higher levels. One particular top comment expressed this sentiment, stating, “I will only reach level 30 and stop there.”

Players are further frustrated by the fact that there is no means to earn Battle Pass XP through grinding, as new missions are only accessible after a specific period of time. This means that even if you obtain the Thor skin, it is highly likely that you will only have it for a brief period of time before the Beta concludes, and your unlocked items are reset.

One commenter pointed out, “The most enjoyable aspect of this game for me is acquiring items that I will inevitably lose within a week.”

Despite the argument that the Battle Pass will provide valuable data for developers to make necessary changes and enhancements before the official launch of Marvel Rivals, certain players have expressed worries regarding the game’s management of time-sensitive content.

One player expressed their exhaustion with games that solely award BP XP from missions and challenges.

Despite not having a release date announced and still being in Closed Beta, Marvel Rivals developers have the opportunity to make changes to the Battle Pass and potentially add more ways for players to progress in the future. Unfortunately, this will not benefit those who have already unlocked skins and other content.
