At its core, League of Legends is a game that requires skill. Being a highly competitive MOBA, players are always aiming to outplay, outsmart, and outclass their opponents. The game’s ranked system is comprehensive, and many devote countless hours to improving their skills and showcasing them.
Undoubtedly, playing League with friends adds to the enjoyment, but it can also pose a challenge when there is a significant gap in experience and skill levels. It is not uncommon to encounter opponents who are much more skilled than you, or to easily defeat someone who is just starting out.
The message is typically intended for particular game modes such as ranked and Clash, where a significant difference in skill level can result in extended queue times in order to maintain fair matches. However, due to a glitch, this message has started appearing in more casual queues like Draft Pick and ARAM, unfairly criticizing players who are simply seeking to have fun.
This discrepancy in skill is determined by a player’s MMR, which is used by the developer to assess their proficiency. However, the problem lies in the fact that MMR in League of Legends remains entirely concealed, particularly in unranked queues where there is no visual indication of a player’s skill level.
Thankfully, the message does not specify which players are contributing to the skill gap, so in five-man lobbies it remains a mystery as to who is responsible for its appearance. Alternatively, you could have each of your friends leave and join in order to determine who is the cause of the skill gap.

The developers are already informed about this bug, so it won’t be present in the client for much longer. This means that if you’ve ever wanted to show off your skills as the superior unranked League of Legends player among your friends, now is the time.
