Crunchyroll Announces Streaming of Haikyu!! The Dumpster Battle Anime Film in October 2024

On Wednesday, October 30, 2024, Crunchyroll announced that it will commence streaming the Haikyu!! The Dumpster Battle anime film beginning Thursday, October 31, 2024. The streaming service confirmed the film will be available globally on their platform at precisely 8 PM Eastern Daylight Time (EDT), with exceptions for regions in Asia, France, and Southern Africa.

Viewers can enjoy the Haikyu!! The Dumpster Battle anime film in its original Japanese version with subtitles, along with various dubbed options, including English and more. The streaming launch follows more than eight months after its debut in Japanese cinemas and is exactly five months after it started screening in North America.

As noted, the Haikyu!! The Dumpster Battle anime film will be offered in several dubbed languages via Crunchyroll, including English, Latin American Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Castilian Spanish, and Catalan. At the time of writing this article, it’s uncertain whether additional languages will be incorporated, but the aforementioned dubs will be accessible right from the release date.

In Japan, the film made significant earnings, selling 1.529 million tickets and grossing 2,230,465,540 yen (approximately US$14.12 million) during its opening weekend, which kicked off on Friday, February 16. In the United States, it garnered US$3.5 million in its first complete weekend starting Friday, May 31, 2024, and was screened with both the English dub and the original Japanese dialogues accompanied by English subtitles.

The arrival of the Haikyu!! The Dumpster Battle anime film on streaming platforms also signifies the conclusion of the release cycle for the initial film in the broader Haikyu!! Final project. The subsequent films aim to adapt the remaining chapters of Haruichi Furudate’s original Haikyu!! manga into a two-part cinematic series, with The Dumpster Battle serving as the first installment. Currently, no official announcements have been made regarding the release of the second film.

These films follow the highly acclaimed four-season anime adaptation produced by Production I.G. The first season premiered in April 2014 with a total of 25 episodes, followed by another 25-episode season that began in October 2015. The third season aired with 10 episodes in October 2016. The fourth season spanned two parts—12 episodes aired from January to April 2020, followed by 13 episodes from October to December 2020.

Furudate’s original manga series was published in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump from February 2012 to July 2020 and has since seen occasional one-shot epilogue chapters. The complete manga consists of 402 chapters compiled into 45 volumes, all of which are currently available in English.
