Counter-Strike Pro Xyp9x Faces Twitch Ban Due to Account Hacking
Andreas ‘Xyp9x’ Højsleth, a prominent former professional Counter-Strike player, has recently faced a setback with his Twitch account after it was hacked and subsequently banned. This incident highlights the ongoing challenges faced by gamers in securing their online identities.
Xyp9x began his career in the gaming world as a semi-professional player before achieving success in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO). He quickly established himself as a leading figure in esports and has transitioned to coaching players within the burgeoning Counter-Strike 2 arena, specifically with the German esports team, MOUZ.
The Incident Unfolds
On November 6, a noteworthy alert was sent out by the popular Twitter bot, Streamerbans, reporting the ban of a Twitch partner account that had an unusual name: “05280afdmoiasfmoom.” This bizarre title piqued the interest of followers who speculated about its origins.
Upon further investigation, one observant user discovered that the account was linked to an emote prefix previously associated with Xyp9x, which raised suspicions of account compromise. The user remarked, “Looks like a compromised account. Their prefix was ‘xyp9x’; could this be @xyp9x?” A subsequent screenshot confirmed the account had been permanently banned for violating Twitch’s Terms of Service.

Impact of the Hack
Xyp9x has acknowledged the situation, confirming that his account was indeed hacked. Although recovery efforts are likely to be successful, the process may be protracted. Currently, while the account has been reverted to its original Xyp9x handle, accessing his channel redirects users to a standard Twitch banned message, stating:
“This channel is currently unavailable due to a violation of Twitch’s Community Guidelines or Terms of Service.”
A Recurring Concern in Gaming Communities
This incident is not isolated; it reflects a troubling trend where Twitch accounts are hacked and often used for unethical purposes. In 2023, fellow streamer DavyJones experienced a similar fate when his account was compromised, leading to unauthorized broadcasts before being banned from the platform.
As online gaming continues to grow, securing personal accounts remains a critical concern for streamers and players alike. The community must push for improved security measures to protect against malicious attacks that undermine the integrity of gaming platforms.
