Casey and Vicky White gained notoriety in 2022 when their scandalous love affair culminated in a deadly confrontation with law enforcement. Their story is now featured in the Netflix documentary Jailbreak: Love on the Run, leading to the pressing question: where is Casey now?
This question, among others, will be explored in the streaming platform’s latest true crime documentary, which unpacks the narrative as it unfolded in real time, along with exclusive interviews from Vicky’s friends and colleagues.
Relationships that take a dark turn have become a focal point for various Netflix titles recently, including the anthology series Worst Ex Ever and the revisit of the tragic Laci Peterson case.
Jailbreak: Love on the Run joins this collection, detailing the story of a prison officer whose love for an inmate led to disastrous outcomes. But beware, spoilers lurk ahead if unfamiliar with the case.
What happened to Casey White?
In June 2023, Casey White was sentenced to life in prison following his escape from the Lauderdale County Detention Center in April 2022, alongside Vicky. He is currently held at the William E. Donaldson Correctional Facility in Jefferson County, Alabama.

The couple, who coincidentally share the same last name, became acquainted while Casey was incarcerated at the facility where Vicky worked.
Casey had a lengthy criminal record, already serving a 75-year sentence for attempted murder and other serious felonies.
He was moved to Lauderdale County Jail in 2020 from the Donaldson facility, awaiting hearings on capital murder allegations related to the 2015 murder of 59-year-old Connie Ridgeway.
Jailbreak: Love on the Run delves into these crimes and the evolving relationship between Casey and Vicky. Former employees describe how Casey charmed the staff, while Vicky’s friends recall her feelings of loneliness stemming from past tragedies.
The duo developed a friendship, which eventually blossomed into a romantic relationship. Vicky then orchestrated plans to help Casey escape from prison, leading them to embark on a journey to commence a new life together.
They successfully evaded capture for 11 days, until a series of tips led law enforcement to their location. Following a car chase in Evansville, Indiana, the couple was forced into a ditch, resulting in Vicky’s tragic demise from what authorities believe was a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
After his arrest, Casey faced charges of felony murder related to Vicky’s death but opted for a plea deal, admitting to the lesser charge of first-degree prison escape.
During his sentencing for life in prison, Casey stated, “I feel like the most hated man in the world. I loved Vicky and wouldn’t drag her name through the mud for anyone in this courtroom.
“Vicky took me out because she said, ‘Right was right, wrong was wrong.’ She was the first person to show me affection and give me a hug in six years.”
“We just wanted a new life together because she knew the truth,” he continued. “I can handle the truth because I know who I am. I chose this road, and it has cost me my life and freedom.”
The Capital Murder Charges Were Dropped
Casey was initially facing the death penalty for the heinous murder of Connie Ridgeway, but these charges were dropped after he retracted his confession.
Connie’s son, Austin Williams, shared insights about his mother in a 2022 interview with Oxygen, stating, “She was just a super sweet, typical Christian, southern lady.
“She always smiled, always happy. A beloved member of the community.”
In October 2015, the small town of Rogersville was devastated to learn that Connie had been murdered in her home. Due to scant evidence, her case remained unsolved for five years until Casey’s alleged confession came to light, claiming he was hired to commit the crime and pleading not guilty on the grounds of insanity.
“When you experience something so horrible, you become accustomed to it,” Austin reflected. “You struggle every day without realizing the extent of it. So when he finally confessed, it was like a huge weight was lifted off.”
It was during his time awaiting a possible sentence at Lauderdale County Jail that he and Vicky began their relationship and subsequently went on the run.

Although Casey later retracted his confession, during the investigation, Austin argued that his claim of being hired didn’t hold up. Connie’s son told Fox News Digital earlier this year that no DNA evidence from the crime scene matched Casey’s, although the Lauderdale County District Attorney’s Office did not respond to requests for comment.
Additionally, Casey had claimed he used his fists, in contrast to the multiple stab wounds found during the autopsy. Austin suspects that Casey may have fabricated his confession, believing he would be safer in the Lauderdale County Jail.
Mark White, a family friend and former Rogersville police officer, expressed to the outlet, “At this moment, no one has been held accountable for Connie’s murder. Our mission remains unchanged as we pursue justice for Connie Ridgeway.”
