Cyberpunk 2077 has transformed from a troubled launch to one of the most remarkable comeback narratives in the gaming industry, thanks to substantial updates and expansions that have revitalized the player experience. As CD Projekt Red embarks on creating a sequel, there are indications that players might not have to navigate the sprawling Night City solo anymore.

In the expansive world of Cyberpunk 2077, there’s no shortage of activities to engage in—from conversing with Keanu Reeves to racing through city streets, completing diverse side quests, and securing top-tier weapons. The experience is largely solitary, with players accompanied only by the internal voice of their character.

Impending Multiplayer Features in Cyberpunk 2

New insight into the sequel has emerged from a recent job posting by CD Projekt Red, revealing that Cyberpunk 2 may incorporate multiplayer elements—a significant shift from its predecessor.

The job listing seeks a Lead Network Engineer for Cyberpunk 2, which is described as “the next mainline Cyberpunk 2077 game.” Among the primary duties highlighted is the development and optimization of multiplayer systems, including matchmaking processes and overcoming challenges related to latency, bandwidth, and server efficiency.

This language strongly suggests that CD Projekt Red is poised to introduce a multiplayer feature to the Cyberpunk universe for the very first time. Although specifics regarding full co-op gameplay, PvP interactions, or other multiplayer formats have yet to be confirmed, the creation of a dedicated team for this purpose indicates that online play will play a pivotal role in the upcoming title.

While details remain limited, this job listing represents the most compelling evidence to date that the sequel will expand player interactions in Night City beyond the solo adventure experience we witnessed in the original game.
