Amid allegations that he was complicit in the abuse experienced by multiple young stars on his shows, Dan Schneider, the creator of several popular Nickelodeon shows, has filed a lawsuit against the producers of the new documentary Quiet on Set.
On March 27, 2024, the groundbreaking documentary Quiet on Set captivated audiences worldwide. The series delved into the television empire built by Dan Schneider.
The documentary featured interviews with former Nickelodeon child stars, including Drake Bell, who shared their negative experiences working with the famous showrunner.
It has been more than a month since the documentary was released, and Schneider plans to take legal action against the Quiet on Set producers for defaming him. According to a recent report by Variety, a lawsuit was filed in the Los Angeles Superior Court last week.
In his lawsuit, Schneider characterizes Quiet on Set as a “hit job”and asserts that he was unaware of the reported sexual abuse and misconduct on his Nickelodeon shows.
Additionally, the document also asserts that Schneider did not participate in the abuse, denounced it upon its discovery, and most importantly, was not a perpetrator of child sexual abuse.
“Defendants have destroyed Schneider’s reputation and legacy by making false statements and implications that he is only interested in clickbait, ratings, and views – or in other words, money.”
Quiet on Set’s main focus is on bringing to light the accusations of workplace bullying, sexism, and racism that were allegedly promoted and enabled by Schnieder during his time working on popular television shows including iCarly, Victorious, and Sam & Kat, among others.
In the third installment of the documentary series, Drake Bell, known for his role in Drake & Josh, bravely opened up about his alleged experience with abuse. This was the first time he publicly shared his story and he recounted the challenges he faced. Bell shared that his former dialogue coach, Brian Peck, who was convicted of sexually assaulting a child actor from Nickelodeon in 2004, was the one who abused him. The victim was referred to as John Doe in court records.
The documentary also addressed the case of Jason Handy, a former production assistant who spent six years in prison and is now a registered sex offender due to his conviction.
