Dandadan Anime Reveals New Cast Members, Theatrical Screenings, and More in Latest PV

On Monday, June 24, 2024, the second promotional video for the Dandadan anime series was released on the official website. The video introduced three new cast members and also announced that the anime will have early theatrical screenings starting on August 31, 2024.

The theatrical screenings of the Dandadan anime, which began in early September, are expected to continue until mid-September. As of the writing of this article, it has been announced that the screenings will expand to over 50 countries and regions. Along with this update, a new key visual has been revealed showcasing the main characters and creatures in the series.

Dandadan premieres in North America and Europe

As previously stated, the Dandadan anime has officially announced its plans to premiere in theaters as DAN DA DAN: First Encounter. The initial screenings will commence in Asia on August 31, followed by European showings on September 7 and North American screenings on September 13. While exact dates were not disclosed, it was mentioned that the screenings will eventually reach over 50 countries and regions, as previously mentioned.

The recently revealed cast members for the show are Nana Mizuki as Seiko Ayase, the grandmother of Momo, Ayane Sakura as Aira Shiratori, a well-liked student at Okarun and Momo’s school, and Kaito Ishikawa as Jiji (Jin Enjoji), Momo’s childhood friend and first love. The previously announced main cast consists of Shion Wakayama as Momo Ayase, Natsuki Hanae as Okarun, Mayumi Tanaka as Turbo-Granny, and Kazuya Nakai as Alien Serpo.

The anime at Science SARU studios is being directed by Fuga Yamashiro, with supervision and writing of the series scripts by Hiroshi Seko. The music is being scored by composer Kensuke Ushio, while the characters are being designed by Naoyuki and the aliens and supernatural entities by Yoshimichi Kameda. The opening theme song for the anime, titled “Otonoke,”is being contributed by hip-hop duo Creepy Nuts.

The show will make its debut on TBS and MBS’ Super Animeism TURBO programming block in Japan. As it airs weekly in Japan, it will also be available for international streaming on both Netflix and Crunchyroll. GKIDS has obtained the international rights for the series’ theatrical, videogram, and digital transaction releases.

The Dandadan anime is based on the original manga series of the same name by author and illustrator Yukinobu Tatsu. It was first published in April 2021 on Shueisha’s digital Shonen Jump+ platform and is currently ongoing.

As of now, 14 compilation volumes have been released for the manga, consisting of 120 out of its 158 chapters. The 15th volume is set to be released in Japan on July 4. Out of the 14 published volumes, seven have been translated into English, with plans for two more to be released in July and October 2024. Before creating his successful manga series, Tatsu gained recognition as an assistant to Tatsuki Fujimoto on the popular Chainsaw Man manga series.
