On December 16, CGV I’Park Mall in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, hosted a press conference for the highly anticipated film “Dark Nuns.” The event featured director Kwon Hyuk-jae alongside cast members, including renowned actress Song Hye-kyo, Jeon Yeo-been, Lee Jin-wook, and Moon Woo-jin, who gathered to introduce this gripping cinematic venture.
A Captivating Sequel with a Dark Twist
Continuing the legacy of the 2015 cult classic “The Priests,” which captivated 5.44 million viewers, “Dark Nuns” dives into the eerie world of forbidden rituals aimed at exorcising a boy possessed by a formidable evil spirit. Unlike its predecessor, this sequel intriguingly centers around nuns who lack exorcism authority, pushing the boundaries of traditional spiritual narratives.
Song Hye-kyo’s Transformative Role
Song Hye-kyo, celebrated for her remarkable performance in the acclaimed series “The Glory,” steps into the role of Sister Junia. This character is a fierce nun determined to rescue the possessed boy, showcasing Hye-kyo’s willingness to embrace challenging and diverse roles throughout her career.
Reflecting on her experience with “The Glory,” Hye-kyo noted, “The overwhelming love I received made me feel a sense of pressure regarding my next project.” She shared that her interest in genre films has intensified, stating, “Engaging in genre work has been thrilling, and I find myself drawn to such scripts more frequently.”
Describing her participation in “Dark Nuns” as a fortuitous “destiny,” Song Hye-kyo expressed her eagerness, saying, “I look forward to revealing a new dimension of myself through this role.”
Aspirations and Collaborations
During the press event, when asked by MC Park Kyung-lim whether she aspires to be dubbed the “Goddess of Genres,” Hye-kyo humbly responded, “There’s still a long journey ahead for me, but I am committed to working hard to earn that title.”
Embracing Team Spirit with Jeon Yeo-been
Song Hye-kyo also expressed her admiration for co-star Jeon Yeo-been, who portrays Sister Michaela, a vital character who aids Sister Junia in their perilous ritual. Excitement filled the air as Hye-kyo shared her sentiments: “Upon hearing Jeon Yeo-been was cast, I was overjoyed. I have long wished to collaborate with her, especially since many of my friends in the industry have spoken highly of her.”
While acknowledging that she inspired Jeon Yeo-been, Hye-kyo confidently declared, “In reality, I drew more strength from her.” She affectionately referred to Jeon as her “savior,” asserting that Sister Junia’s mission would not have succeeded without Sister Michaela’s support.
