In a generous act of philanthropy, Dave Portnoy recently donated $60,000 to a struggling pizza establishment in the United States, helping them avert a permanent closure that was set to occur after Christmas Day.
Known primarily as the founder of Barstool Sports, Portnoy has cultivated a significant online following, not only for his sports commentary but also for his passion for food, especially pizza. This obsession has led to the creation of his popular YouTube series, One Bite Pizza Reviews, where he travels across the country sampling and rating various pizzerias.
During a recent visit to a local pizza shop, Portnoy discovered that the owner was facing financial difficulties, leading to the grim decision to shut down operations on Christmas Day due to insufficient funds to cover operational costs.

After engaging with the staff and sampling their pizza, Portnoy felt compelled to help. He asked the owner how much money they would need to continue their operations for an additional year. The response was a figure that would enable them to not only stay open but also secure a liquor license.
“If a wealthy person in the pizza business were standing right in front of you, you’d need to have a specific amount in mind to ensure you could stay open for a year,” Portnoy said, urging the owner to provide a figure for how much support they required.
The owner ultimately mentioned a need for $60,000, a request Portnoy immediately accepted by extending his hand and stating, “done.” He assured them that the funds would be available before Christmas, providing much-needed relief and a lifeline for the business.
After finalizing the arrangement and receiving heartfelt gratitude from the owner, Portnoy rated their pizza a respectable 7.9. As he exited the shop, he humorously dubbed himself a “nice motherf***er” for his act of goodwill.
