Dave Portnoy reveals skin cancer surgery

During the BFFs podcast, Dave Portnoy, owner of Barstool Sports, disclosed that he underwent a surgical procedure to remove skin cancer, resulting in 12 stitches on his neck.

In addition to managing Barstool Sports, Dave Portnoy co-hosts a weekly podcast with influencers Brianna Chickenfry, Josh Richards, and others. The podcast’s YouTube channel, which can be found here, has gained nearly 600k subscribers, and thousands more on various other social media platforms.

The influencer hosts frequently discuss events that are occurring in their own lives, and, during an episode on June 19, Portnoy disclosed a surprising medical diagnosis.

At the conclusion of the performance, Chickenfry inquired about the gash on Dave’s neck, leading him to disclose that he had undergone a surgery to remove skin cancer.

“You’re the first person to ask,”he acknowledged. “I had cancer, but I managed to beat it.”He then confirmed that it was skin cancer caused by not wearing sunscreen while being in the sun.

“It’s not frightening at all. I’ve experienced a heart attack, battled cancer, and even been stung by bees – but I’ve overcome it all. It’s difficult to grumble when I spend my days basking in the sun.”

The topic begins at 33:48.

The explanation continued, revealing that the incision had been closed with 12 stitches, some placed on the inside and others on the outside of his neck.

Portnoy stated that he had no intention of openly announcing his cancer diagnosis, but he did admit to wanting some sympathy as a joke.

“I was on the verge of cutting this thing open to make it bleed,”Dave joked, “but then someone would have asked, ‘What’s going on?’ This scar is massive and no one seems to have noticed.”

In addition to Dave Portnoy, other influencers have also recently dealt with health problems. On June 14, 2024, Twitch personality Fanum disclosed that he had a potential heart attack, leading to a brief break from streaming in the preceding days.
