David Fincher’s English Squid Game has fans upset for one major reason

It appears that the rumors are indeed accurate, as David Fincher is currently working on an English-language adaptation of Squid Game, much to the dismay of Mindhunter fans.

The Squid Game craze shows no signs of slowing down, as Season 2 is set to premiere later this year and Netflix plans to air Squid Game: The Challenge. Rumors have been circulating for some time that David Finch is developing his own adaptation of Squid Game, and it seems that these reports are still accurate.

As reported by The Playlist, Netflix was initially interested in creating an American version of the hit K-drama with David Finch as the director. Despite Netflix denying these rumors for years, it has been confirmed that Finch has been working on the series for the past two years.

The celebrated director has allegedly postponed other projects with Netflix, including Chinatown. It has been reported that Utopia writer Dennis Kelly is also involved in the project.

However, the announcement has caused Mindhunter fans to express their disappointment with Finch’s dedication to a project that Netflix has not officially approved, instead of focusing on a new season of the highly praised crime series.

“Creepy.org expressed their opinion on Twitter, recommending to support Mindhunter instead of this “b*******.”Another user, @DannyDrinksWine, agreed and suggested that they should have fought harder with Netflix for a third season of Mindhunter.”

One supporter stated, “Please continue funding Mindhunter. We do not need an American version of Squid Game when the original series is already one of the most popular shows of all time.”

Despite its widespread popularity and high demand for a third season, Mindhunter, one of Netflix’s highly acclaimed crime series, only ran for two seasons. The show revolves around two FBI agents who create the Behavioral Science Unit and conduct interviews with some of America’s most notorious murderers.

The show received acclaim for its remarkable portrayal of Charles Manson, exceptional storytelling that included several murderers, and a talented ensemble cast.

Despite initially being planned for five seasons, Mindhunter was ultimately put on “indefinite hold”after the Season 3 finale. Fans were outraged when it was revealed that the main reason for this decision was the show’s high budget.

“Despite its high viewership, the show was quite expensive. We discussed the possibility of finishing Mank and then reassessing, but I doubt we could do it for a lower cost than season two. Ultimately, we have to be practical – the amount of money spent should align with the number of viewers,”Finch explained to Vulture.

At the moment, it seems that Netflix is not planning on a Season 3 with the original cast, as they have been released from their contracts.
