Despite the numerous incredible Batman games released in recent years, it may be easy to assume that the Dark Knight and his extended Bat-Family are the only DC superheroes deserving of their own game. However, this is not the case as other DC heroes have not had the same level of luck.
Despite their iconic status, characters such as The Flash, Wonder Woman, and Green Lantern have been overlooked by developers in favor of the Dark Knight and his group of adopted orphans. While they have made appearances in the Injustice franchise, we are specifically referring to their lack of solo efforts and not just being part of a fighting game roster.
Therefore, taking this into consideration, we have compiled a list of five DC heroes who we think have rightfully earned their own game.
5. The Flash
All fans of DC are well aware of the adorability, intelligence, and unmatched speed of The Flash! These three qualities alone are sufficient evidence to support the idea of ‘the Fastest Man Alive’ having his own game, yet there is a wealth of depth to The Flash beyond just his incredible speed.
The Flash possesses an exceptional collection of adversaries in the world of comics, featuring renowned foes such as Reverse Flash, Captain Cold, and Mirror Master. Each of these characters has a deep and complex connection with the Flash, and I am convinced that any of their narratives would serve as a superb foundation for a solo player campaign.
Consider the excitement of stepping into the role of The Flash in a game reminiscent of Arkham, utilizing Speed Force abilities to defeat enemies. We’ve seen glimpses of the potential for this in films such as The Flashpoint Paradox, making the prospect of a game where players can embody the Scarlet Speedster even more enticing.
4. Green Arrow
Despite their similarities, Green Arrow and Batman share a common set of methods and morals, making a game featuring the DCU’s top archer seem like an unexciting option at first glance.
Despite their surface similarities, there exists a fundamental contrast in the methods utilized by Green Arrow and the Dark Knight. The Emerald Archer adheres to a distinct philosophy, akin to that of a contemporary Robin Hood. This presents an intriguing potential for storytelling, while his mastery of archery and arsenal of trick arrows could set him apart from other superheroes in the gaming world.
To be honest, I believe that the CW series starring Stephen Amell did an excellent job of showcasing Star City’s green-clad hero, and it was well-received by viewers. Therefore, if this fictional Green Arrow journey could embody the essence of that show, it would surely be a hit among audiences.
3. Wonder Woman
Originating from Themyscira, also referred to as the Island of the Amazons, Wonder Woman is a formidable heroine and a founding member of the Justice League, alongside iconic figures such as Batman and Superman. As a member of DC’s Trinity, her solo game is well-deserved. Additionally, Wonder Woman offers the opportunity to explore the mystical aspect of the DC Universe, a realm that is often overlooked.
It would be exciting to have the opportunity to experience a Wonder Woman game that explores the mystical aspects of the character, as she is well-versed in dealing with gods, creatures, and sorcery. This could bring a refreshing and fantastical element to the typically technology-focused superhero genre. A game similar to the highly acclaimed God of War series by Santa Monica Studio, which expertly blends intense action with a captivating narrative, would be ideal.
2. Green Lantern
Although a proper live-action adaptation of The Green Lantern has yet to be seen (disregarding the 2011 movie, apologies to Ryan Reynolds), a game centered around this DC character could potentially satisfy the longing of diehard fans.
In the world of comics, Hal Jordan and John Stewart are two of the most beloved human Green Lanterns. An incredible game that allows players to join these space law enforcers as they journey through the galaxy defeating futuristic villains would be a truly unforgettable experience. In our most fantastical visions, we envision a game similar to LA Noire, where Hal and John use their skills to solve seemingly unsolvable mysteries and bring justice to the entire universe.
Despite the hypothetical game involving a lot of paperwork, there would still be plenty of action involved. The ring bearers are powerful and never allow evil to escape their grasp. They frequently face off against formidable enemies such as Brainiac, Sinestro, and the Red Lantern Corps, which would provide a welcome break from the police work.
Superman
Despite the numerous Superman titles that have been released over the years, none have truly lived up to expectations. It is high time for a quality, dedicated Superman game to be developed. Taking cues from Insomniac’s successful Spider-Man series, imagine an expansive open-world Metropolis where players can freely fly as the iconic hero or seamlessly switch to his alter ego, Clark Kent. This game would offer the ultimate experience of saving the world while also engaging in investigative journalism.
We would greatly appreciate a game that delves into the distinct dynamic between Superman and Batman. Over time, these two individuals have cultivated a profound admiration for one another. And if the Dark Knight were to make an appearance, well, we would gladly hand over our money. The possibilities are endless with Supes, as he has yet to truly showcase his potential in the realm of video games. Of course, we would expect access to all of his abilities. Merely providing super strength and flight would not suffice; as players controlling Superman, we want to truly embody the essence of the iconic superhero.
