Dead by Daylight is poised to implement significant alterations to the Memento Mori feature in the game.
As detailed in a blog post on September 12, 2024, the developers of Dead by Daylight will introduce modifications to some of the game’s perks and mechanics in the upcoming update, with one of the key changes focusing on the Mori functionality.
One of the principal changes is that killers will now be able to execute a Mori on survivors without requiring an offering. For context, Moris are animations showcasing how killers eliminate survivors. Each killer, including those licensed from other franchises, has a distinct Mori that reflects their unique characteristics and moves.
Currently, players in the role of a killer can opt to bring a Mori offering before the match begins—provided they’ve unlocked them in the Bloodweb. These offerings range from Uncommon to Ultra-rare rarities.
Dead by Daylight features a variety of iconic horror villains.
The rarity of the Mori determines how many survivors a killer can eliminate with their hands during a match. However, with the upcoming changes, the mechanics surrounding Mori will shift. While they can still be utilized as an offering, they will now feature a new effect.
Equipping a Memento Mori will grant players a significant Bloodpoint bonus when successfully performing it in-game. Importantly, it will no longer be necessary to finish off survivors, as all killers can automatically execute a Mori, but only on the last surviving player. Utilizing the Memento Mori offering will simply result in additional Bloodpoints, making it more of a bonus rather than a requirement.
This alteration implies that not all killers will be able to achieve a clean 4K with the Ultra-rare Mori offering unless playing as characters like Michael Myers, Sadako, or Pyramid Head, who can eliminate survivors without depending on a Mori.
Additionally, this update enables players to experience their favorite killer’s special animation without the prerequisite of unlocking it through the Bloodweb.
Another adjustment involves enhancing the visibility during a Mori execution by ensuring that any objects obstructing the camera will fade away. This means that executing a Mori will no longer be interrupted by trees or statues in the environment, as will be addressed in the upcoming patch.
