Deadlock Modder Successfully Integrates Classic Overwatch Map into the Game

One innovative modder has successfully introduced the iconic Overwatch map, Ilios, into the game Deadlock, sparking excitement among gamers.

At first glance, Deadlock may seem reminiscent of Overwatch 2 due to its diverse roster of characters, each with their unique abilities. However, the gameplay experience is significantly more intricate and varied compared to Blizzard’s renowned hero shooter.

For some time now, the two games have often been juxtaposed, leading many to ponder what a map from Overwatch 2 would look like in Deadlock. One modder has turned this curiosity into reality.

As featured in a Reddit thread, user Space_Bear87 has successfully adapted the beloved control-point map Ilios into Deadlock. While the visual aesthetics—including graphics and lighting—differ from those in Overwatch, the essence of the picturesque, Santorini-inspired locale with its majestic white buildings and domed roofs has been effectively preserved.

Similar to Overwatch 2, this map features a symmetrical design with the control point situated centrally. Players can admire distant views of mountains, boats, and a captivating statue, enhancing the scenic depth.

Given that Deadlock’s gameplay leans towards a MOBA-style framework with multiple lanes, envisioning how this classic map would integrate into the game might be challenging. Nonetheless, the mod creator has indicated plans to tailor Overwatch maps to align with the unique playstyle of Deadlock.

In their comments, the modder noted, “Deadlock characters will still have the ability to buy and level up, but they will experience the newly developed game mode.”

Many players reacted enthusiastically to the clip, highlighting the immense potential of community-driven content. One gamer expressed, “I’m honestly more excited about fan-created projects like this than the main game.”

Another user remarked, “Bepop on Ilios is going to be amazing.”

A third player stated, “This is incredibly impressive and well-executed; these additions will be fantastic.”

Currently, Valve’s Deadlock is still in the alpha stage of development, yet it has already attracted a notable player base and a burgeoning community. It will be fascinating to observe the new features that emerge once the game officially launches.
