Deadlock player receives Alpha access through direct email to Valve CEO Gabe Newell

According to a Deadlock player on Reddit, they were able to gain early access to the game by directly emailing Gabe Newell, the CEO of Valve. This allowed them to bypass the usual several-day wait time for invites.

Despite being accessible to only those who have received an invitation for several weeks, Valve officially recognized the existence of their latest game on August 23, 2024.

Despite being open to only a select group of individuals, Deadlock has maintained its invite-only system for those interested in obtaining Valve’s FPS MOBA. However, the process of receiving an invite on Steam can still take up to two days or even longer.

Ivyx123, a user on the Deadlock Subreddit, revealed that instead of searching for someone with the game to send an invite, they were able to obtain access from Gabe Newell himself by emailing him directly.

The post reads, “Gabe reads his email.”I would like to take a moment to acknowledge Gabe Newell. I recently contacted him regarding the Deadlock game and was delighted to receive a response. It’s fantastic to witness such direct involvement from influential figures at Valve.

“I would like to extend my gratitude to Gabe and all the developers dedicated to this game. Your tireless efforts do not go unnoticed. I am eagerly anticipating the growth and evolution of Deadlock. Wishing the team all the best!”

Despite being one of the largest companies in the gaming industry, Valve’s CEO Gabe Newell has consistently prioritized responding to fan emails. Therefore, it comes as no surprise that he was able to assist the Redditor.

Despite the game being in its Alpha stage, it has received a generally positive reception from players. Shroud, a prominent figure on Twitch and a former professional FPS player, has even expressed his belief that the game will become a global phenomenon.

“According to him, this game will undoubtedly dominate once it is released. It stands out as the first arena shooter MOBA that is truly exceptional, unlike the other ones which are not as impressive.”

AverageJonas, a well-known Valorant content creator, announced on August 26 that he will no longer be playing the Riot game and will instead be dedicating his time to Deadlock.

Despite not being universally received, the game was still subject to criticism. Summit1G, for instance, made fun of the game by declaring it to be “worse than Overwatch.”
