Deadlock players are already welcoming Concord players after shock shutdown

The Concord fanbase may have been left without a team, but they have found a new home in Deadlock, Valve’s fast-growing hybrid hero shooter and MOBA game.

On September 3, 2024, Sony shocked the gaming world by announcing the shutdown of Concord, just ten days after its launch. The company also stated that all copies would be refunded, sparking unfavorable comparisons to other infamous failures such as The Day Before.

It wasn’t the death of Concord that surprised many, but rather the speed at which it occurred. Many had predicted that Sony would quietly end the game after a few months, but instead, there was a highly public and humiliating shutdown, despite Sony’s insistence that it is only temporary.

Although Concord may no longer be available, there are many other games that can capture its audience. Fans of Deadlock on the Gaming Reddit community are extending an invitation to former Concord players to join them in Valve’s latest game, which is generating considerable buzz and excitement.

Naturally, this resulted in numerous jokes being made. One user jokingly commented, “Looks like we’ll have 32 new players joining us,”while another quipped, “I wonder if the servers can handle an influx of tens of new players.”

Despite the playful nature of the situation, Concord supporters were still able to join Deadlock by sending requests to current players, which were then approved by members of the Reddit community.

Unfortunately, Deadlock is currently only available on PC and there have been no announcements about possible console versions. As a result, players who previously enjoyed Concord and now only have a PS5 will not be able to access the game.

There is a possibility that Concord will come back in the future, potentially with a free-to-play model. However, it is unlikely that it will experience a revival similar to Final Fantasy 14, particularly with the saturation in the GaaS market. For fans of Concord, it may be more beneficial to invest their time in something like Deadlock instead of spending another 10 days on it.
