Deadlock Players Critique Bebop as “Severely Overpowered” After Recent Buffs

Deadlock‘s significant September 12 update introduced balance modifications to several heroes, including Bebop, who players have described as “absolutely broken” following the recent changes.

Valve’s adjustments provided the beginner-friendly robot with extensive buffs across his entire kit, with one specific change generating substantial backlash from fans. Previously, Bebop’s Hyper Beam ultimate served as a high-damage area denial ability with impressive DPS and Spirit-scaling, but it was relatively easy to escape or interrupt.

Although many of the original features remain intact, the key alteration is that Hyper Beam now inflicts splash damage within a five-meter radius from the impact point. Players, having tested the revamped ultimate, have labeled it as overtuned.

“Valve kinda broke Bebop’s ult,” one user posted on Reddit, sharing a clip where the hook hero eliminated four opposing team members independently.

As expected, other players chimed in with similar experiences. “You can literally dominate games just with his ultimate using your first eight points,” one user commented, adding, “The splash damage makes Hyper Beam absolutely broken and nearly impossible to escape.”

Hyper Beam already imposed a significant slow effect, meaning that the additional five meters to evade it feels much longer than anticipated.

Conversely, some players argued that Hyper Beam’s power was already excessive prior to the changes, and the newly added splash damage simply pushed it over the edge. “Let’s be honest, it was already quite broken before. Maybe now they will finally notice it,” one user mentioned.

Suggestions for reining in the ability’s overpowered nature were varied, but there was consensus that further modifications are essential. The complete list of changes made to Bebop includes:

  • Uppercut no longer roots the hero during the cast time
  • Can continue firing if he jumps while the laser is already warmed up
  • Recent change reverting the hook to its original casting mode, allowing it to pierce through allies/enemies removed
  • Hook range reduced from 35m to 30m
  • Hyper Beam now deals splash damage in a 5m radius around the point of contact on the ground (can be used to draw heroes out of cover in certain areas)
