Deadlock September 17 Update Addresses Major Game Exploit

Valve’s patch on September 17 for Deadlock introduced fixes for several niche bugs, with the most significant change being the elimination of a major exploit. This update aims to enhance gameplay and balance the game.

In line with contemporary MOBAs, the early game strategy revolves around farming resources, specifically Souls, to start accumulating items and building upgrades. The tactic known as Soul sharing essentially allows players to gain currency from multiple lanes as opposed to just their own.

This process, which relies on specific lane conditions and teamwork, could lead to a significant early game advantage and a snowball effect in matches. However, as of September 17, this exploit has been rectified, with Valve implementing a limit on how many times a player can be “considered for an enemy trooper death event.”Each player is now capped at four considerations per wave during the laning phase.

  • Fixed an exploit where players could engage in soul sharing across multiple lanes to accumulate more Souls than intended. Each player can now only be considered for an enemy trooper death event up to four times per wave.
  • Resolved an issue where troopers sometimes failed to die after going through their death flash state.
  • Corrected the Unstoppable state not effectively preventing fire rate reductions.
  • Addressed functionality issues with Grey Talon’s Charge Shot and Vindicta’s Assassinate cameras.

Following the patch, each player is only eligible for an enemy trooper death event a maximum of four times per wave.

Additional changes included adjustments to camera behavior during Grey Talon and Vindicta’s Charge Shot and Assassinate abilities, as well as fixing instances where troopers would not die in specific situations.

Valve has actively been updating Deadlock during the closed alpha phase to adapt to player feedback. The prior update on September 14 introduced emergency nerfs for Bebop following multiple complaints regarding the overpowered nature of the hero’s ultimate ability.
