According to director Shawn Levy, the upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine film will not require viewers to have watched any previous MCU movies or TV shows.
There is no doubt that Deadpool and Wolverine will contain numerous MCU Easter eggs and cameos. However, director Shawn Levy has reassured fans that it will not be necessary to watch any previous movies or shows in order to understand the events of the film.
Throughout the years, numerous fans have become accustomed to watching specific Marvel movies or shows in order to grasp the sequence of events, as numerous storylines interconnect through characters and plot elements.
Despite this, Levy has stated to The Associated Press that he is not interested in continuing the tradition of requiring Marvel fans to do research before watching his films. He believes that as an adult, he will do his own homework and does not want to do it while watching a movie.
While creating this film, I held a deep appreciation and gratefulness for the enthusiastic fan base that possesses extensive knowledge of the characters and world within. However, I did not want to assume this level of understanding. My goal was to create an entertaining movie that did not require prior research.

Levy’s suggestion to keep fans in the dark about the movie is intriguing, considering the prominent involvement of the TVA (Time Variance Authority) in the plot. This connection could potentially tie the film’s storyline to previous events in the Loki series.
However, if the director remains true to his statement, the TVA’s presence and any mention of Loki could potentially be dismissed by the characters or simply brushed aside, as they may not hold significant importance to the overarching storyline.
On July 26, 2024, theaters will welcome the release of Deadpool and Wolverine.
