Indeed, years after Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox, and with it its array of heroes (as well as its repertoire of villains), we will soon see Deadpool mingling with the MCU.

While the film is still in preparation despite the Hollywood strikes which have put a damper on its wheels, we tell you everything we know to date about Deadpool 3: release date, trailer, plot, casting, and much more.

Summary

Date the Deadpool & Wolverine sortie

Deadpool 3 will be released on July 24, 2024 in French theaters. Filming has officially wrapped, having resumed in November 2023. According to an earlier report from Deadline, the film had moved its release date because of the 2023 strikes.

“Filming on Deadpool 3 resumes this week.”

The film’s release date was initially scheduled for September 6, then November 8, but Marvel had fun reshuffling the cards of all its films. Result: Deadpool 3 will probably be one of the first films of Phase Six of the MCU.

It’s now official: filming is over. It was the two main actors, Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman who announced it on their social networks, the first always using the joking tone specific to the character – and to the star who plays him. The appointment is therefore given, confirming the release date for the end of July 2024!

“The costume hides the blood. As well as sweat… But today, with the end of filming on Deadpool, it’s mostly tears. A huge and eternal thank you to the cast and crew of our film who battled wind, rain, strikes and Hugh Jackman… all under the steadfast direction of Shawn Levy. / I had the opportunity to make a film with my closest friends, and that doesn’t happen often. See you soon on July 26 [July 24 in France, editor’s note]… ⚔️🥺⚔️”

“What an adventure! !! I loved every minute of making this film. Well, not the training and diet, but the other 93.2%. To the best cast and crew, thank you! You are all wonderful. To two of my best friends, Ryan Reynolds and Shawn Levy, I literally couldn’t have done it without you. Literally! July 26 has never seemed so far away. It’s time to shave.”

In an interview with TheWrap, director Shawn Levy previously explained: “We shot half the movie. I edited half of the film. We can’t wait to get back to work and release this film next year.”

Is there a Deadpool & Wolverine trailer?

A first real trailer was published for the 2024 Super Bowl. If it reveals how the anti-hero intends to integrate into the MCU, it mainly serves to give the real title of the film, namely Deadpool & Wolverine.

Actor Ryan Reynolds had already revealed a release date (which has since been changed) in a video shared on Twitter, confirming the return of Hugh Jackman in his iconic role of Wolverine:

“It’s hard to keep my mouth shut on this subject.”

However, there is no official trailer or other teaser images as of now. All we get is a glimpse of Reynolds and Jackman in costumes. Outfits which also take up more “old school” styles of the X-Men:

Casting of Deadpool & Wolverine: Who Will See You?

Of course, what would a Deadpool movie be without the eponymous anti-hero himself? In addition to reprising his role as a talkative mercenary for this third part, Ryan Reynolds also took up his pen to work on the screenplay.

But the big news is above all the presence of Hugh Jackman in the casting, as he officially returns to the role of Wolverine. When the film hits theaters, it will have been over seven years since Logan, which many felt would be his last appearance.

The official casting of Deadpool & Wolverine currently looks like this:

  • Ryan Reynolds – Wade Wilson/Deadpool
  • Hugh Jackman – Wolverine
  • Morena Baccarin – Vanessa
  • Matthew Macfadyen – Paradox
  • Owen Wilson – Mobius
  • Emma Corrin – Cassandra Nova
  • Karam Soni – Dopinder
  • Leslie Uggams – Blind Al
  • Stefan Kapicic – Colossus
  • Brianna Hildebrand – Negasonic Teenage Warhead
  • Shioli Kutsuna – Yukio
  • Rob Delaney – Peter
  • Jennifer Garner – Elektra

Insider Daniel Richtman also reportedly reported that Mobius (Owen Wilson) would have a “big role”in Deadpool 3, which would make sense since that movie is likely about traveling across the multiverse.

A notable addition to the ensemble is The Crown’s Emma Corrin, cast as Cassandra Nova, one of the film’s villains.

One role that is certain is that of Elektra, who will once again be played by Jennifer Garner.

In September 2023, rumors about Daniel Radcliffe playing an “unknown secret role” also circulated without being confirmed by the studios.

Deadpool & Wolverine plot: What will the film be about?

According to Reynolds in comments reported by Variety, the sequel could see the character and the plot offer a new story. The actor and screenwriter has indeed suggested that the third opus “seeks to go in a completely different direction” .

Given the cameos from X-Men characters and leaked photos from filming, it’s likely that Deadpool will focus on the arrival of 20th Century Fox characters in the MCU, in a somewhat meta. And we can obviously expect a fight between the mercenary and Wolverine.

And despite the fact that Deadpool is now under the Disney umbrella, it has been repeatedly stated by various people at Marvel that Deadpool 3 will retain its R rating, and therefore the vulgarity and gore associated with it.

For his part, director Shawn Levy told Deadline: “Our film is raw, daring, most certainly rated R. We made great efforts not to shoot it on film sets with digital environments. The Internet proved it by revealing images from our shoot. But no, we wanted something that was grounded and authentic.”

Many fans believe the film will be a loose adaptation of the Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe story, with Owen Wilson’s character Mobius as well as the TVA (from the Loki series) pursuing the anti-hero through different timelines as he causes disorder and chaos.
