Deadpool & Wolverine deleted scene sets up Gambit’s MCU return

Ryan Reynolds has recently shared a deleted scene teasing his return, and if you’re eagerly anticipating more Gambit in the MCU, you’re definitely not alone.

Channing Tatum’s portrayal of Gambit in Deadpool & Wolverine was a pleasant surprise. The journey to his debut as the X-Men’s Ragin’ Cajun was lengthy and unpredictable, but it ultimately proved to be a success.

Similarly to X-23, Blade, and Elektra, it can be assumed that Gambit also managed to survive the ultimate attack on Cassandra Nova’s stronghold. In a recently released deleted scene by Reynolds, it has been confirmed that at least one of these survivors would have been hinted at for their potential comeback.

The setting isn’t particularly impressive. It captures Gambit surrounded by the remains of Cassandra Nova’s base, as he turns towards the camera while the soundtrack intensifies. This scene has all the elements of a classic post-credits teaser.

One of the most crucial aspects is the way the scene foreshadows Gambit’s potential comeback by revealing how he escaped from The Void. The clip concludes with a close-up of Gambit’s face, his eyes reflecting a sling ring portal as he stares directly at the camera.

Despite being deleted, the scene does seem to have made its way into the final film as Gambit can be seen on a TVA screen in the post-credits scene of Deadpool & Wolverine, as Reynolds confirmed in a subsequent tweet.

This is a significant occasion for fans eagerly anticipating the return of Gambit. The character had a successful year, being prominently featured in Deadpool & Wolverine and the upcoming X-Men ’97 on Disney+.

Despite not having a definite return date, there have been numerous indications that the future of the MCU will heavily revolve around the Multiverse. Sources have revealed that the upcoming films between Avengers sequels Doomsday and Secret Wars will take place in the multiversal Battleworld.

If this is the case, it’s likely that Gambit will make a comeback alongside other beloved characters from previous games, just as he did in Deadpool & Wolverine. The fate of Blade and Elektra remains a mystery, leaving room for further storytelling.
