Director Shawn Levy, known for his work on Deadpool and Wolverine, has recently addressed the major pre-release rumor surrounding the film. He has finally broken his silence on the speculation that Taylor Swift would make an appearance.
The highly anticipated film Deadpool & Wolverine is quickly becoming one of the most talked about movies of 2024. With no other MCU films released this year, there was immense pressure to deliver a successful production.
With the reappearance of Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine and some surprising cameo appearances, the third installment of the Merc with a Mouth is poised to become one of the top-grossing R-rated movies of all time.
Despite the overwhelming positive response to the various cameos in Deadpool & Wolverine, there was one notable absence that generated much discussion. In the lead-up to the film’s premiere, there was much speculation surrounding the possibility of singer-songwriter Taylor Swift making an appearance.
Despite initial speculation that Swift would have a role as Dazzler, rumors later suggested she might play Lady Deadpool. With the film’s release, it has been confirmed that Taylor Swift is not part of the cast.
Apologies to all the Swifties out there.
Swifties were convinced Taylor would appear as Lady Deadpool.
In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, director Shawn Levy addressed the ongoing speculation about Taylor Swift’s potential appearance in the Deadpool & Wolverine film. He clarified that despite fan requests on social media, there was never any talk or consideration of including her in the film.
Despite the close relationship between Ryan Reynolds, wife Blake Lively, and Swift, Levy clarified that there was never any intention for the singer to make an appearance.
“Naturally, Ryan and Blake had their own personal connections with Taylor, and I also had a minor one. Despite the loud and somewhat confusing rumors, I knew they would continue until the movie was released, regardless of what I said or did.”
In addition, the director concluded the discussion by expressing his concern that the pre-release rumors would disappoint fans. However, he ultimately understood the influence of online speculation and chose not to interfere with it.
“Levy admitted to having moments of concern that fans would be disappointed upon learning that Taylor would not be playing Dazzler in the movie. However, she acknowledged that the internet has a way of spreading rumors quickly and that there is no way to control it.”
