Deadpool & Wolverine Join 8 Movies with Rare Box Office Record

“The highly anticipated movie, Deadpool & Wolverine, is on its way to becoming one of the most successful films in history. In fact, it has already achieved a feat that only eight other movies have accomplished.”

Undoubtedly, Deadpool and Wolverine will eventually secure a spot on the list of the top-grossing films in history; it is simply a matter of time.

The projected opening weekend earnings for The Marvels were expected to reach $360 million, a considerable amount given that the film made less than $200 million during its entire box office run.

Incredibly, the film exceeded experts’ expectations: within its initial days in theaters, it has already grossed over $440 million, breaking multiple records.

Remarkably, it has become a part of a select group by earning over $200 million in its opening weekend, a feat achieved by only eight other films. Take a look at the list below:

  1. Avengers: Endgame – $357.1 million
  2. Spider-Man: No Way Home – $260 million
  3. Avengers: Infinity War – $257 million
  4. Star Wars: The Force Awakens – $247 million
  5. Star Wars: The Last Jedi – $220 million
  6. Deadpool & Wolverine – $211 million
  7. Jurassic World – $208 million
  8. The Avengers – $207 million
  9. Black Panther – $202 million

To provide more context, this is the most successful opening in the careers of Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, and Shawn Levy. It also surpasses the global opening of Avatar: The Way of Water and is now the highest-grossing R-rated opening in history.

This achievement also contributed to the MCU becoming the first movie franchise in history to surpass $30 billion in total box office revenue.

In an Instagram story, Reynolds expressed, “It’s a bit difficult to process, but I want to thank everyone who went to see the film this weekend.”

The question is whether or not it will reach $1 billion. Marvel movies typically experience a decline in ticket sales after the first weekend; however, No Way Home only dropped by 75% in its second weekend and still earned close to $2 billion. Therefore, it is highly likely that the answer is yes, unless there is a major setback at the box office.
