Deadpool & Wolverine: The MCU Connection

The conclusion of Deadpool and Wolverine’s story may leave you with lingering inquiries about the fate of the MCU: is Earth-10005 still in danger, has Cassandra Nova truly been defeated, and can we expect them to make a comeback?

When we previously encountered Ryan Reynolds as the Merc with a Mouth, he was using Cable’s temporal dial to manipulate time. However, in Deadpool and Wolverine, he ends up being captured by the TVA for a completely different motive.

Although the TVA believes he has a greater purpose, Mr Paradox is given the opportunity to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, he decides to escape and save his own world – the Fox universe, as he is unaware of what this supposed higher purpose may be.

After learning that his own universe’s Wolverine has passed away, he takes one from a different timeline. However, they both find themselves in the void and must confront Cassandra Nova.

Deadpool & Wolverine: Explaining the Ending

The conclusion of Deadpool & Wolverine sees the two main characters living harmoniously in the Fox universe. Wade reconciles with Vanessa, while Logan is reunited with Laura (also known as X-23). Additionally, the TVA apprehends Mr. Paradox for his Time Ripper antics.

Wolverine successfully persuades Cassandra Nova to allow their group to return home and rescue her brother’s (Charles Xavier) world. They quickly escape through a sling ring portal just as Alioth appears and threatens to consume them. As they make their way to safety, they encounter Mr Paradox, who is amazed that they managed to flee from the Void.

Regrettably for him, the situation deteriorates rapidly: Nova materializes through her own portal and murders Pyro following his admission of attempting to eliminate her on behalf of Paradox. She declares her intention to wield the Time Ripper and “play god”by obliterating every timeline except for the Void.

After flinging Deadpool and Wolverine into a shop, they are unable to immediately pursue them as they are forced to battle the Deadpool Corps. This army consists of various versions of Deadpool from different dimensions, such as Lady Deadpool, Cowboy Deadpool, and Headpool, all driven by a thirst for blood.

After putting on his mask, Wolverine joins forces with the duo to face the enemy. As they come out victorious, they momentarily forget their regenerative abilities. However, their worries are put to rest when Peter arrives and urges them to cease their actions. It becomes evident that Peter holds a special place in Deadpool’s heart across all universes.

Despite the potential risk of their annihilation, Deadpool and Wolverine are given the opportunity to prevent Nova from utilizing the Time Ripper. However, Mr Paradox warns them that the necessary combination of matter and anti-matter to disable the machine will come at a great cost.

Wolverine initially volunteers to face Deadpool, but Deadpool quickly attacks him and shoves him aside before locking the door. However, just as Deadpool appears to be losing, Wolverine breaks through and seizes the remaining cables. Together, they successfully defeat the machine, eliminate Nova, and live to recount their triumph.

B-15 arrives, announcing that Deadpool and Wolverine’s brave deeds have prevented their world from perishing. At first, Logan says goodbye to Wade, but the movie concludes with the two of them seated among their companions (such as Blind Al, Negasonic Teenage Warhead, and Yukio).

Is Deadpool and Wolverine in the MCU now?

They may be part of the wider MCU multiverse, but they do not exist in the same world as Spider-Man and the Avengers. So, while they are connected, they are not directly interacting with those characters.

Upon his arrival at the TVA, Deadpool is shocked to learn that his world is crumbling due to the death of its central figure, Logan, also known as Wolverine. Mr. Paradox offers him the opportunity to join Earth-616, the “Sacred Timeline”, and Deadpool is shown various scenes from movies and TV shows.

Despite having the option to leave his world for the MCU, he ultimately chooses to save it and remains in the Fox universe, which has now merged with the MCU.

If you find that confusing, here’s a simple explanation: all Marvel movies (including every Spider-Man film, The Punisher, and even F4NTASTIC) have been incorporated into the franchise through the concept of the multiverse.

Therefore, to summarize: Deadpool (along with Wolverine) is now a part of the MCU, however he remains in his own separate universe and it is likely that he will be brought into the next Avengers films in Phase 6.

Who dies?

Cassandra Nova suffered the most significant loss at the hands of Deadpool and Wolverine, although there were multiple assumed fatalities by the conclusion of the movie.

Nova perishes when Deadpool and Wolverine accidentally trigger the Time Ripper, resulting in a collision of matter and anti-matter within her body and causing her to explode.

Despite being major characters, Johnny Storm (Chris Evans), Blade (Wesley Snipes), Elektra (Jennifer Garner), and Gambit (Channing Tatum) are all killed off in the story.

The three of them, along with Deadpool and Wolverine, team up to attack Nova’s base. As they all jump through the portal, they flash a smile at the duo, just as Alioth prepares to unleash its deadly cloud upon the area.

Johnny met an unimaginable fate when Wolverine killed him off; according to Wolverine, if he had somehow survived, he would have been begging for death.

Deadpool informs Nova that Johnny had spoken ill of her in secret, but this was not the case. However, Nova disregards this and proceeds to punish Johnny by tearing the skin and flesh from his bones as if it were a tablecloth. Despite briefly remaining upright, Johnny eventually crumples into a pile of bloodied bones.

Despite their regenerative abilities, the Deadpool Corps all manage to survive. Unfortunately, Nicepool, who lacks the same powers as Wade and the other Deadpools, is the only variant who perishes. Wade, however, still utilizes him as a human shield, resulting in his head being blown off.

Deadpool effortlessly dispatches a number of TVA agents who remain unidentified, in a manner that is shockingly brutal. May they rest in peace.

What are Earth-616 and Earth-10005?

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Earth-616 is known as the Sacred Timeline and is where most of the MCU’s events occur. On the other hand, Earth-10005, also known as the Fox universe, is where the X-Men timeline and Deadpool’s story take place.

This topic is a source of minor debate. In the larger Marvel realm (including movies, television series, comics, and even video games), distinct worlds have been designated with individual Earth numbers.

An illustration of this is the X-Men Animated series (and X-Men ’97), which is set in Earth-92131, and Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man trilogy, which is set in Earth-96283.

In the world of comics, Earth-616 holds a significant meaning as it is considered the prime universe, the central hub of all existence. What sets it apart is that it is the setting for numerous stories that have yet to be adapted in the MCU.

Despite the recent use of the term Earth-199999 in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse to describe the MCU’s timeline, Kevin Feige has declared that it is in fact Earth-616, which raises the question of how this change has occurred.

The MCU can be seen as a separate multiverse from the comics, allowing it to have its own unique “prime universe”without interfering with the larger Marvel franchise. In simpler terms, any confusion about the MCU is a matter of personal perception.

Why was Thor holding Deadpool?

Although it may be a hint at Deadpool’s fate in Avengers: Secret Wars (if he does appear), it’s worth noting that the scene of Thor holding Deadpool is actually an altered version of Loki’s death in Thor: The Dark World.

Despite not interacting with any of the Avengers (unless we consider Chris Evans, who portrays Johnny Storm), Deadpool catches a glimpse of Captain America in “The First Avenger”and a short clip of Thor crying while cradling a battered and wounded Deadpool upon arriving at the TVA.

Deadpool inquires for an explanation, however, Mr Paradox declines to provide one. While it may seem like a meaningless joke, there is a possibility that if the Merc with a Mouth were to join Earth’s strongest team, he may meet his end as the hero he strives to be.
