Deadpool & Wolverine’s most heartbreaking tribute came from Ryan Reynolds

The film Deadpool & Wolverine was chock-full of memorable scenes, thanks to its numerous cameos and variations from the Marvel universe.

Despite the many impactful and emotional moments throughout the movie, the most significant and heart-wrenching scene occurred during the credits when Reynolds dedicated a touching tribute to the late son of his co-star, Rob Delaney, Henry.

Reynolds wrote in a lengthy Instagram caption that if you had stayed through the credits of Deadpool & Wolverine, you may have noticed a credit that read, “For Henry Delaney,”who is the son of Rob. Sadly, Rob’s little boy passed away from a brain tumor in 2018, just as Deadpool 2 was finishing production. Reynolds has expressed regret for not acknowledging Henry in the end credits of DP2 and has always felt guilty about it.

He went on to say, “Although there may be a silver lining, it’s worth noting that Henry’s name is now being seen by a larger audience in the credits of both Deadpool and Wolverine. It’s a long-awaited moment for the father and son to finally appear on screen together.”

Despite their efforts to provide their son with extensive treatment for a cancerous tumor that was discovered in 2016, Delaney and his wife, Leah, tragically lost their two-year-old son in January 2018.

The actor has been extremely honest and transparent regarding the passing of his son, even using his immense sorrow as inspiration for his upcoming memoir, A Heart That Works, set to be released in 2022.

In his post, Reynolds made a point to acknowledge his co-star’s book, describing it as a “remarkable piece of writing”that delves into the range of emotions brought to light by Henry’s passing. He expressed gratitude for knowing Rob and having friends who are willing to be vulnerable in order to bring comfort to others.

Despite experiencing a tragedy, Delaney was overjoyed to reprise his role as the lovable and goofy Peter Wisdom in the Deadpool franchise. In an interview with Digital Spy, he shared, “I wasn’t given any instructions on what to say. It had a different feel to it. It definitely felt more expansive. I mean, it still had a sense of control and Ryan’s unique voice shone through, but it also felt grander.”

Delaney’s prediction was ultimately confirmed as the Deadpool & Wolverine film surpassed $1 billion in box office sales, setting a new record as the top-grossing R-rated movie in history.
