Deadrop Receives Long-Awaited Update Following Departure of Dr Disrespect from Studio

On June 24, Midnight Society’s Deadrop released its initial gameplay update after separating from Dr Disrespect.

As one of the primary creators of Deadrop, Dr Disrespect played a crucial role in its development since 2021 by providing financial support and promoting the project.

The initial repost from the official Deadrop account was on July 17, featuring updates from Midnight Society about the game’s entry into the founder testing phase, bringing it closer to the early access release.

Despite the recent challenges, our team, work, and mission have only strengthened our confidence. As we enter the Founder Testing stage this week, our goal for DEADROP remains unchanged: to create a next-gen PvPvE extraction shooter. This marks the beginning of the final phase of development, bringing us closer to our early access launch in the upcoming months.

In late June, accusations emerged against Dr Disrespect concerning his 2020 suspension from Twitch. Four years after the incident, Twitch staff members began coming forward with proof stating that he had been banned for sending inappropriate messages to a minor through Twitch Whispers.

On June 25, Robert Bowling, the Head of Midnight Society Studio responsible for Deadrop, released a statement regarding the company’s decision to sever ties with Dr Disrespect.

“Bowling stated that he will not work with anyone who inappropriately messages a minor. He stands firm on this decision and will only act based on factual information, as promised.”

On the same day, Dr Disrespect released an official statement addressing the speculations surrounding his Twitch ban. He acknowledged that he had engaged in inappropriate messaging with a minor.

At that point, companies that had previously aligned themselves with him had already begun to distance themselves. Turtle Beach pulled his headset from their stores, and the San Francisco 49ers announced they would no longer collaborate with him.

To gain access to Deadrop’s founder testing, individuals can purchase an NFT on the Midnight Society’s OpenSea site. These original NFTs are priced at $50 and grant the buyer exclusive access to Deadrop along with additional benefits.

These NFTs are still available for purchase on OpenSea, with a resell price range of $70 to $6,000 depending on the chosen item.
