December Update: Fortnite Introduces First-Person Mode with a Twist

Fortnite is set to introduce a much-anticipated first-person camera mode in December, but it’s important to note that this feature will be restricted to specially created islands. This change marks a significant shift for a game long dominated by a third-person view, something that players have been requesting for quite some time.

Epic Games has consistently maintained the traditional third-person perspective, allowing only minor camera adjustments in the settings. However, beginning December 11, players will get a taste of the first-person experience, although it won’t be accessible in the main Battle Royale or Zero Build game modes.

This newly introduced first-person camera will debut with the release of Fortnite Chapter 6, focusing on enhancing the Creative mode experience. Players eager for first-person gameplay in the classic Battle Royale mode will have to wait a bit longer, as the feature is aimed primarily at content creators.

Island creators can access this new feature through the Creator Portal starting December 11. They will need to submit their islands for content review to unlock the first-person camera mode. It’s crucial to note that this feature is currently in Beta and comes with certain restrictions.

Most ranged weapons will work in first-person view; however, players will revert to third-person when using dual-wield weapons. Additionally, activities such as swimming, skydiving, and gliding will also switch players back to the standard view. There may also be instances where shadows, reload animations, and even the player’s hands might not be visible during gameplay, indicating that ongoing polishing is required.

Despite these limitations, the introduction of the first-person perspective showcases Epic Games’ commitment to evolving Fortnite’s gameplay as the year draws to a close. Furthermore, the developers have revealed that the classic version of Fortnite, dubbed Fortnite OG, will be making a permanent return.
