The rewards for this vary, from common items to encounters with rare Pokémon, but the game’s community no longer thinks these are good enough.
Pokémon Go fans are lamenting the Study Phase rewards
Angry at the state of the Study Phase rewards in 2024, a Pokémon Go player posted to Reddit describing them as “an absolute joke.”
The attached photo showed the trainer receiving only 2,000 Stardust, 3,000 XP, and 5 Nanana Berries for an entire week of Field Research missions.
Also angry about the Study Phase, a frustrated player commented, “98% of Niantic’s rewards for difficult tasks are an absolute joke. This is one of their biggest, stupidest problems as a company. There is no excuse.”
Others were frustrated with the decrease in rewards, responding, “I remember when I did my research every day for the weekend reward and LEGENDARY Pokémon,” and “I remember getting shiny Latios and Latias of these studies; how low we have fallen.”
Some trainers somewhat defended the Study Phase by explaining how they “got a ranged pass yesterday thanks to it,” but even that response was accompanied by the caveat “First and probably last time.”
The current selection of Study Phase rewards includes Stardust, XP, a handful of Pokémon encounters, and a mix of common and rare items. In comparison, when the feature first launched in 2018, it was possible to encounter Moltres, Zapdos, and Articuno.
