While many players of Baldur’s Gate 3 fail their Honor Mode run in outlandish ways, this particular player was able to quickly end the fight with Malus Thorm before it even began.
During Act 2, players may encounter Malus Thorm in the House of Healing, a sinister location reminiscent of the “Resident Evil”game franchise. Accompanied by four undead nurses, Malus Thorm proves to be a formidable opponent.
One player shared their experience of swiftly defeating Malus Thorm in a post on the Baldur’s Gate 3 subreddit. They provided a detailed account of their strategy.
Initially, they revealed the makeup of their team, which included a Dark Urge Tav who was a multiclass of Cleric and Sorcerer, a Shadowheart who was a combination of Cleric and Fighter, an Astarion who was a Gloom Stalker Ranger and Assassin, and a Minthara who was an Oathbreaker Paladin and Warlock.
The player proceeded to list the precise steps they had taken to secure their swift triumph. They began by executing a Surprise attack with Astarion, utilizing an Arrow of Many Targets coated in Arsonist’s Oil.
For the following attack, Astarion utilized the same arrow, but this time coated it with Oil of Combustion. He then proceeded to fire two shots as a Dread Ambusher, both using fire arrows.
The passive ability of Dread Ambusher for Gloom Stalker Rangers provides several beneficial effects, including a +3 bonus to Initiative, enhanced movement speed, and an additional 1d8 damage to your attacks.
A Shadowheart, invisible to the naked eye, entered the battle and drenched everyone, providing the opportunity for the Dark Urge to unleash a Quickened Lightning Bolt, resulting in additional damage from the lightning. As a result, four of the five enemies were struck with a critical hit.
Minthara cast Hunger of Hadar on Malus Thorm and the nurses, following it with a barrage of fire arrows.
Ultimately, the Dark Urge put an end to the battle by utilizing Magic Missiles, a spell known for its accuracy in targeting and attacking enemies.
Despite the original Reddit post stating that the task was completed in less than a turn, subsequent replies clarified that it was actually accomplished in less than a round.
Certain responses commended the original poster for their remarkable victory, while others shared their individual struggles against Malus.
One player admitted, “I can talk him into killing himself,” acknowledging the potential for success if he rolls high enough on a skill check when trying to persuade Malus Thorm to take his own life.
