The Shie Hassaikai arc of My Hero Academia is widely regarded as one of the top arcs in the series, with Deku taking center stage in his battle against the formidable villain, Overhaul. This arc holds significant importance as it marked the introduction of Eri and the Quirk-Destroying drug derived from her quirk, which was later adapted and utilized by All for One in the final war arc.

Despite Izuku’s crucial role in saving Eri, he was overshadowed by other students such as Kaminari in the aftermath of the arc. This could be attributed to the need to keep Eri’s powerful quirk a secret and prevent another threat like Overhaul from rising. It could also be a conscious decision made by Izuku to stay out of the spotlight for the sake of Eri’s safety.

Before the arrival of All Might, Shie Hassaikai was a powerful mafia gang that closely monitored the activities of villains in the city. However, with All Might’s presence, their influence and operations were greatly diminished. This did not sit well with Kai Chisaki, who was a prominent member of the group. Seeing their decline, Chisaki suggested to his leader that they use his granddaughter, Eri, and her unique quirk to develop a drug that could eliminate the quirks of heroes.

Despite the leader’s rejection of his idea and belief that Chisaki’s mental state was abnormal, Chisaki took matters into his own hands. He took care of the leader, captured Eri, utilized her quirk to create the Quirk-Destroying drug, and ultimately assumed control as the leader of Shie Hassaikai.

To confront him, the heroes banded together and launched an attack on Shie Hassaikai’s base. Uraraka and Tsuyu aided Ryukyu in dealing with one of Chisaki’s henchmen, while Kirishima and Fat Gum teamed up to handle another. As these students dealt with the reinforcements, Deku engaged in a fierce battle against Chisaki, with support from Lemillion and Nighteye.

Ultimately, the conflict resulted in Deku rescuing Eri from Overhaul. The climax of the arc featured a showdown between Overhaul and Deku, with both of them utilizing their amplified quirks. In the end, Izuku emerged victorious, defeating Overhaul. However, despite his heroics, Izuku’s actions were overshadowed and only a few students, such as Kirishima, Uraraka, and Tsuyu, received recognition.

The possible motive for this decision may have been to protect Eri from the public eye, particularly due to her immensely powerful quirk that has the ability to reverse the age of objects. This choice would have allowed U.A to safeguard Eri’s identity from potential villains who may have attempted to abduct her.

Additionally, it is possible that the news reporter was unable to capture Izuku and Eri’s battle with Overhaul as most of it took place in the skies. Conversely, Kirishima and the others fought in public areas, garnering attention from the public and resulting in news coverage.

Ultimately, Izuku’s desire to protect Eri’s identity may stem from his own personal experience with the dangers of her quirk. This is a common trope in anime where the main character’s actions are often overshadowed, but in this case, there is a valid reason for Izuku’s secrecy.
