Demon Slayer: Fans Notice Running Gag with Tanjiro and the Hashira

Fans are beginning to notice Tanjiro’s interactions with the Hashira in Season 4 of Demon Slayer, particularly his efforts to make a good first impression.

Tanjiro, along with other cadets in the Demon Slayer Corps, has progressed to the Hashira Training Arc, a shorter section in the storyline where they strive to advance in their rank. His ultimate goal is to reach the position of Hashira, for which he must undergo training from experienced members of that prestigious rank.

The process calls for participation from as many living Hashira as possible. While a few choose not to attend, the majority do. Tanjiro has been in awe of all the Hashira he has encountered, and they all receive the same warm reception.

A comparison posted on X/Twitter, in which Tanjiro invited both Giyu Tomioka, the Water Hashira, and Muichiro Tokito, the Mist Hashira, to a humorous competition, reveals that he did so using identical animation.

Clearly, ufotable recognizes the comedic aspect of Tanjiro’s behavior in this situation. He playfully suggests a noodle-eating contest to Giyu and playfully challenges Muichiro with paper airplanes. After all, just because they are fighting demons doesn’t mean they can’t enjoy themselves, right?

Some fans hold the belief that this occurs because Tanjiro embodies love and there is no further explanation needed. Another fan even goes as far as to declare him an angel.

Fans of the series appreciate this aspect of Tanjiro, in which he embodies the classic shonen protagonist who refuses to let his positivity waver. One fan expresses, “Tanjiro is like a brother figure for the Hashira who need his support the most.”Another adds, “I love the way Tanjiro’s expressions convey so much emotion. I can’t wait to see what happens next.”

As expected, everyone is now in on the joke and a few even comment about seeing it in the next episode when another Hashira makes an appearance. This wonderful gag created by ufotable is allowing everyone to have a good laugh before the arrival of Infinity Castle and the start of the war with Muzan.
