Demon Slayer: Shinobu’s Strategy Against the Demon Who Killed Kanae

The second episode of Demon Slayer Season 4 discloses that Shinobu has a strategy to vanquish the demon responsible for Kanae’s death. However, the strength of the demon and how they will be defeated remain uncertain.

In Episode 2 of Demon Slayer Season 4, viewers are given insight into Giyu’s past. The episode opens with Tanjiro receiving a letter from Kagaya Ubuyashiki, who expresses a desire to aid Giyu in his internal battles. However, due to his deteriorating health, Kagaya is unable to do so.

As a result, Kagaya requested Tanjiro’s assistance. At first, Giyu did his best to avoid Tanjiro. However, he eventually opened up and shared everything, in the hope that Tanjiro would leave him alone. Meanwhile, Shinobu faced difficulties as she refused to take part in the Hashira Training.

Despite Kanao’s past inhibiting her ability to express herself, she openly shares her desire to learn from Shinobu, bringing genuine happiness to the latter. However, Shinobu’s response shifts towards discussing the demon that took Kanae’s life and her determination to defeat it. Caution: This article contains spoilers from the manga!

Who killed Kanae?

Doma, one of the twelve Kizuki, also known as Upper Moon Two, was responsible for the death of Kanae Kocho in the series Demon Slayer.

As a Hashira, Kanae faced Upper Two and was quickly overpowered. Although the manga does not depict their fight, it is revealed that Doma delivers a fatal blow to her. In her last moments, Kanae urges Shinobu to leave the Demon Slayer Corps, but Shinobu remains determined to seek revenge.

For years, Shinobu had meticulously crafted a brilliant plan, knowing that the final battle of Demon Slayer would be her opportunity to execute it. However, as hinted in Episode 2, she realizes that she will require Kanao’s assistance.

Shinobu’s Plan to Defeat Doma

Shinobu is poisoning her body, which will weaken Doma if he consumes her.

Shinobu’s entire strategy was centered on sacrificing herself as she was aware of the fact that Upper Moon Two, a powerful demon, cannot be easily defeated. She also understood Doma’s preference for targeting women for his meals. Doma’s source of strength comes from consuming a large number of women, as he believes they possess essential nutrients that are beneficial for nourishing infants.

Despite always successfully killing demons with her poisons, Shinobu’s attempts prove futile against the powerful Upper Two. In order to defeat Doma, she resorts to poisoning her own body for years. As expected, when they finally face each other in the manga, Doma consumes Shinobu, allowing Kanao the opportunity to behead him.

In addition, Inosuke joins the fight after witnessing Kanao in peril. Together, these demon slayers successfully defeat one of the most formidable demons in history.
