The long-awaited Hashira Training in Demon Slayer has commenced, with the exception of two Hashira who are absent for a valid reason.
The fourth season of Demon Slayer has finally premiered with a one-hour episode. The episode opens with a unique scene that is not found in the original manga, in which Sanemi and Obanai embark on a mission and briefly venture into the Infinity Castle. The narrative then shifts to the events following the Swordsmith Village Arc.
The Demon Slayer Corps recognizes that it is impossible to defeat the Upper Moons without the manifestation of the Demon Slayer Marks. That is why the Corps requires all demon slayers, including Hashiras, to continue to strengthen themselves. With the absence of Rengoku and Uzui, the Corps is now left with only seven Hashira.
During the training of the lower-ranking Corps members, the Hashiras will also focus on honing their abilities for the ultimate showdown. The training is broken down into five stages, but Giyu and Shinobu are exempted from participating. Nevertheless, they have their own individual motives for opting out of the training. Caution: The following text includes spoilers from the manga!
Why isn’t Shinobu Kocho included in the Hashira Training?
Despite not following Giyu’s lead and leaving the meeting, Shinobu still did not have a role in the training. However, she was secretly collaborating with Tamayo to develop a poison that would speed up Muzan’s aging process. In addition, she had also been consuming poison to weaken the Upper-Rank Two.
Shinobu was always prepared to make sacrifices because she understood that defeating Douma without proper planning would be extremely challenging. Without her, the casualties would have been even more severe. In addition, she possesses a distinct style of combat.
Due to her inability to decapitate a demon, she resorts to using Wisteria poison as a means to accomplish the task, resulting in her decision to not train the others and instead concentrate on completing her mission.
Why isn’t Giyu Tomioka included in the Hashira Training?
Despite angering his fellow Hashira by leaving the meeting and stating that he is not like them, it is actually the opposite for Giyu. Sanemi and the others believe that he believes he is superior to them. However, this is not the case as Giyu actually feels immense guilt over Sabito’s death, as they had grown up together.
During the Final Selection, Giyu was rendered unconscious and Sabito tragically sacrificed himself in an attempt to save others. Giyu strongly believes that his late friend was worthy of becoming a Hashira. He was also disappointed that Tanjiro did not use water breathing during the selection, as there would be no one to carry on his legacy.
Despite being aware of Giyu’s inner turmoil, Kagaya Ubuyashiki was too frail to hold a proper conversation. As a result, he asked Tanjiro to watch over Giyu. Although Giyu does not train the other demon slayers in the arc, he continues to hone his skills by practicing with Sanemi.
